FISHERIES SECTION

11.1 Fisheries Unit

This unit deals with the production of frys, fingerlings etc.

We were taught the artificial propagation of catfish.

Steps involved in the artificial propagation;

1. Broodstock selection: The male fish to be used to set aside

2. Procurement of the hormone usually acetone or pituitary gland.
3. Extraction of pituitary gland.
4. Preparation of pituitary gland.
5. Injection of pituitary extract.
6. Procurement of milt
7. Preparation of incubation trough
8. Procurement of eggs from female Clarias genapinus
9. Fertilization and incubation of eggs.

Work description

The work that was assigned to the student includes the following

- Washing of the fish tank

- Provision of feed to the fish
- Clearing of the surroundings around the fish tank.
- Sorting og the frys and fingerlings.
 CHAPTER TWELVE

EXTERNAL WORK DONE

12.1 Revitalization of African pear tree

An African pear trees that was dying was mandated to us to revitalize.

This process involved the following

- gathering of top soil

- poultry manure
- ropes
- water
- stones/blocks

the top soil and poultry manure was mixed with water. The surrounding of the tree
was digged to incorporate the top soil and stone which will help to support the tree.
The broken part of the tree was supported with a rope to prevent it from breaking
out completely.

At the end of the project, it was successful.

CONCLUSION

The industrial training done at school and Songhai Delta Amukpe has helped to
develop my skills in agriculture. It has help to broaden my knowledge with
practical information.

My I.T. period at Songhai Delta Amukpe has also helps in developing social skills
as other universities such as university such as Uiversity of Benin, Ambrose Ali
university, Delta State Polytechnic, Niger Delta University had their student also in
Songhai Delta Amukpe.

It had helped in bringing out the entrepreneurial spirit in students

RECOMMENDATION

I recommend that more funds should be made available for the provision of better
infrastructure that will aid the students in farm work. Provision of good machinery
will go along way in making things easier.
