We use may to say that things are possible - perhaps they are (not) true), or perhaps they will

(not)
happen.

E.g. I may go to the beach .

We may not be here tomorrow.

We use might in the same way as may - especially if we are not sure about things.

E.g.: “Are you ill?” - “ Not, sure. I might have a cold.”

Note: Might is unusual in questions.

1. Rewrite the sentences with may.

a) Perhaps Sarah´s ill. SHE MIGHT HAVE A COLD

b) Perhaps they´ll go out. THEY MAY GO TO THE PARTY
c) Perhaps it won’t rain. ___________________________________________
d) Perhaps we´ll buy a new house. ___________________________________
e) Perhaps Mark is at school. _______________________________________
f) Perhaps Mary needs help.

2. Use the words in brackets to make sentences, giving possible explanations. Use may or
might, as you like.

Example: Bring some food! (get/ hungry)

We might get hungry. (probability)

a) Harry up ! ( we / get / late) HARRY UP WE MIGHT GET LATE

b) Don´t tell her! (she / get / furious) DON’T TELL HE, SHE MAY GET FURIOUS
c) Bring a coat! ( it / cold) BRING A COAT IT MAY BE COLD
d) Ask him nicely! / he / help/ you) ASK HIM NICELY. HE MIGTH HELP YOU
