The testing was rigorous, the competition was steep, but the 2020 Kia Telluride came out

at the top as one of “Car and

Driver’s 10Best.” It’s no wonder. Thousands of Kia employees worked hard to ensure the Telluride is tough-and-ready,
because the road to greatness is rarely paved. Learn more about the Telluride at kia.com/telluride.

2019 Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD

Arrival: October 2019

It’s more than just its electric powertrain that

makes the Model 3, and Teslas in general, automo-
tive deviants. Unlike other automakers, which often
wind up creating products by carefully matching
the competition, it’s refreshing—and occasionally
annoying—how Tesla simply does its own thing.
For example: Tesla is unwilling to provide us
with test vehicles, so we plunked down our own
money for this one. What’s refreshing is that the 3
excels at the all-important first impression thanks
in part to fun tricks like Emissions Testing mode,
which provides six different fart noises that can be
played on demand or with the turn signal, as well as
Dog mode, which keeps our furry friends comfort-
able when we leave them in the car. And its phone-

12.3-inch display mounted in the center of the dashboard
is now a touchscreen. The driver’s seat still allows for

good as 23. True comfort, though, is found in the mas-

car, one that’s willing to play a bit but is best suited to the
driver who wants a large sedan that’s priced to under-

from its eyeball-assaulting grille—will appeal to those
who equate luxury with feeling comfortably numb.

It’s been a decade since the Kia Optima took its last big styling leap.
Kia’s follow-up to the breakout 2011 model was mostly a cleaned-up
version of its predecessor. It was a careful approach but one Kia
isn’t replicating with the 2021 Optima. This latest model is sleek, low,
and graced with details that move it in the direction of sexy. You
wouldn’t necessarily know by looking at it, but the Optima is closely
related to the Hyundai Sonata.
Our brief drive in a Kia K5, the de facto Korean Optima, revealed a
firm suspension and light steering, but the company hasn’t finalized
