6. RECOMMENDATION
The prevailing sub-surface soil conditions at the proposed building site were made on the basis
of field investigation and laboratory test of the professionals.
Borehole number 1 showed findings with a layer of reddish to grayish brown, coarse to fine silty
clay, hard soil of medium plasticity, moist soil. The soil structure is classified as “CL-ML” in USCS
chart. High values of the Standard Penetration Test (STP) are observe at six meters and onwards.
Drilling was terminated at about twelve meters from the natural grade line. At this level, it
become unpractical to continue the boring operation utilizing the wet type wash bore
equipment. Other holes were bored but to no avail, the soil was stiff and penetration is difficult.
The ground water was not observed in the drilled boreholes.
The sub-surface soil profile correlates the findings from both boreholes
The following shall be taken in consideration:
a. Structures to be erected must lay the foundation at a level of three (3) meters depth from
the natural grade line using a net allowable soil bearing capacity of one hundred twenty four
(124) kpa. Verification shall be made when excavation is in progress. The soils engineer shall
be invited to confirm depths. This capacity increases with depth however relative to the
Standard Penetration Test (SPT) blow count values.
b. Verification of the depths of the individual foundations is to be made because of the rather
limited scope of the study which was based only on the exploratory boreholes and samples
retrieve.
c. This net allowable bearing pressure should not be arbitrary increase by 33% in designing
foundations affected by earthquake loads.
d. Differential settlement shall not exceed 25 mm or else, the allowable bearing of the soil
should be decrease accordingly.
