ROLE OF NURSE

1. Caregiver  It is the traditional role of the nurse which assist clients physically and
psychologically while preserving the client’s dignity.
2. Counsellor: The nurse counsel’s primarily healthy individuals with normal adjustment
difficulties and focuses on helping the person develop new attitudes, feelings and
behaviours by encouraging the client to look at alternative behaviours, recognize the
choices and develop a sense of control.
3. Advocate: It is the role of the nurse to protect the client. They assist clients in exercising
their rights and help them speak out for themselves.
4. Change Agent It is one of the hardest roles of a nurse; it is to assist a client in
modifying their behaviours.
5. LEADER:  As a leader, she influences the client to make decisions regarding health.
Nursing leadership is defined as a mutual process of interpersonal influence through which nurse
helps client in making decisions for establishing & achieving the goals to improve the clients well
being.

6. Manager: This is the role of the nurse that helps ensure that care is oriented to the client,
while controlling the cost.
7. RESEARCHER
Nurse investigates problems in order to improve nursing care & expand the scope of nursing
practice. • She does many qualitative & quantitative researches.
Based upon these findings, they practice nursing care in hospital as well as in the community
setting.

8. Teacher Nurses play the role of teachers as she helps clients learn about their health and
health care procedures they need to perform to restore or maintain their health.
9. REHABILITATOR
Rehabilitation is a process by which individuals return to maximal levels of functioning after
illness, accidents or other health events. • Nurse helps the clients to adapt as fully possible who
experiences physical or emotional impairment that change their lives.

10. COMMUNICATOR
Nursing involves communication with clients & families, other nurses, health care team members,
resource persons & the community
As a communicator, nurse provides information to other team members about the palled &
unplanned nursing care. • She conveys information verbally at change of shift.

11. COMFORTOR
The role of a comforter is a traditional & historical one in nursing & has continued to be important
as a nurse have assumed new roles.
As a comforter, nurse provides comforts to the client by considering him as an individual with
unique feelings & needs.
She motivates clients to reach therapeutic goals. • She promotes comfort to the client by staying
near the patient
