Elements of a Marketing Proposal

A marketing proposal is a formal document stating the requirements of the primary owner,

presented to both Angel Investors and New Venture Investors. Creating a good marketing

proposals is very essential as the most usual demand conveyed through it is monetary

requirements. A marketing proposal needs to convince the investor that by investing at this

time in this new startup will yield in gains which are more than keeping their money in a

bank. A task which seems pretty easy but requires years of experience, intuitive thinking and

a convincing style of writing.

A good marketing proposal has the following key elements:

 Background: It is the brief description of what this proposal is drafted out and a

summary of the incoming requirements.

 Project Brief: This is the description of the project, why should one invest in this

project and most importantly what gains will be there to the consumer if this idea is

made into a reality.

 Market Survey: This section informs the investor about the current needs of the

market, growth rate of the specific industry and the future prospect of investing in the

specific industry.

 Timeline: Timeline of the project, along with major checkpoints and in certain cases

the cashflow points are presented here. This is very important as the investor needs to

know from what point he will start getting back the returns on his investment, is it a

long term investment or a short term one. This also serves as a checkpoint of the

startups to reach the specific goals in due time.

 IRR and PBIT calculations: Based on the approximations along with the money the

investor is going to put in IRR and PBIT calculations are made. This is important
because if a project is not working on-paper the probability of it turning out as a

profitable venture is pretty low.
