A family goes fishing. They are in a boat on a lake. They see something
in the water. It looks like a bear.

The family moves the boat closer to the animal. The animal is a baby
black bear. The bear has a plastic tub on its head. This is very
dangerous. The bear tries to swim. However, water is in the tub.
The family decides to save the bear. The woman drives the boat. The
man wants to take the tub off the bear’s hear. At first, the man cannot
do it. After a while, the man gets the tub off the bear’s head. The bear
swims to the shore.
In the past, bears do not live in this area. However, the number of
bears is growing. It is more common to see bears in the area.

Difficult words:
tub (a small round piece of plastic where we keep food or liquid),
shore (the land along a sea or lake),
common (usual or normal).

Family Saves Bear – level 2

A family in Wisconsin, US, went fishing; they were in a boat on
Marshmiller Lake when they saw something unusual. It looked like a bear
with plastic on its head.
The family moved closer to the animal, and they saw that the animal was
a baby black bear. The bear had a plastic tub on its head, and there was
water in the tub. The bear tried to stay above water; however, it was
difficult.
The man wanted to take the tub off the bear’s head. He was not
successful at first; however, after a while, he succeeded. The man
removed the tub, and the bear swam away.
In the past, bears lived only in the northern part of the state. Now, the
population of bears is growing, and they are becoming more common in
the south, too.
Difficult words:
tub (a small round container),
succeed (to be successful),
common (usual).

Family Saves Bear – level 3

A family in Wisconsin, US, were out fishing on Marshmiller Lake, when

they spotted an animal swimming with what appeared to be a plastic tub
stuck on its head.
The family maneuvered their boat around, and they realized that the
trapped animal was in fact a baby black bear that struggled to stay
afloat.
The family followed the bear with a boat before they got close enough
to be able to remove the plastic container from the bear’s head.
However, their first attempt was unsuccessful, and the family circled
back around for a second try to get the plastic off. They saved the
bear, and it made it safely to the shore.
The black bear’s primary range is located in the north of the state.
However, due to a growing population, bears are becoming more common
in the lower part of the state than ever before.
Difficult words:
maneuver (to move skillfully or carefully),
afloat (above the surface of water),
primary range (the main or the most important area where something
exists).
