Promoting the adoption of Biogas

Biogas technology offers unparalleled benefits for households in rural area where there is abundant
animal faeces that can be used to generate biogas. If the system is efficient part of energy generated
can be used in lighting up the homes. Equally we can employ human faeces in collective household
to produce this energy type. The utilization of the total potential of biogas technology can
contribute to increasing cheap domestic energy availability in rural areas and collective households
(like in dormitory schools and prisons). After digestion biomass all nutrients and most of the organic
matter are made available as bio-slurry used to improve soil fertility.
The objective of this project is therefore to enable people in the rural areas to generate bio energy
from animal and human waste respectively. It will equally enable them to obtain slurry which they
can apply directly in their farms or used in the making of compost to improve agricultural
productivity and production. This project is important for the following reasons;

 The energy is renewable

 People are optimising use of resources within their environment

 It prevents deforestation of the forest for fuel wood

 It promotes agricultural development.

The Vision 2035 consist of national strategic guidelines are centred on the long-term development.
This strategy focuses on meeting the millennium development goals (MDGs) of the United Nations
Organisation aimed at eradicating poverty and improving human living standards on earth. The first
part of this vision consisted of the poverty reduction strategy and the second part consists of the
growth and employment strategy is part. To enhance and fully establish the economic recovery started
a decade ago, the Government has prepared a Cameroon shared vision development paper to be fully
implemented by 2035. It reads as follows:”Cameroon: An Emerging, Democratic and United Country
despite Its Diversity”. It is a good plan by the government and where the overall development of the
country will be achieved through sectoral development. Schedules have been attributed for various
activities that are required in order to meet up with goals.

My contribution towards the vision 2035 will be felt in the rural sector, where I will work to have an
increase agricultural output so to meet the food needs not only of the population, but also in
promoting agribusiness. Extension is an essential activity to increase productivity and production in
agriculture which is the major activity of the rural area. The work will not only end with production
but with the development of various value chains to ensure proper transformation, storage and
marketing of the agricultural produce.
