Nowadays, many people choose to be self-employed, rather than to work for a company

or organisation.
Why might this be the case?
What could be the disadvantages of being self-employed?
In this modern era, a lot of people tend to work for themselves in preference to a firm or
organization. This trend is driven by several factors and I would opine that self-
employment may bring people some demerits.
On the one hand, there are two compelling reasons as to the growth in the number of self-
employed people. First, as employees seem to have a desire for coming up the ladder,
competitions in the workplace are becoming increasingly fiercer, which may affect the
relationship between colleagues. They tend to scrutinize each other to find faults in even
the smallest actions, which may render members of staff suffer from mental breakdowns.
Second, since what employers require job-seekers nowadays is a high qualification,
people with no or low degrees are likely to be turned down. Therefore, setting up their
own business would be a wise choice.
On the other hand, people choosing to work for themselves may have to confront some
difficulties. To commence, unlike grand companies whose finance is secured, people who
are self-employed would have financial problems including the overheads and sources of
investment, which may make them run up huge debts. Furthermore, there is a high
likelihood that they may go bankrupt because they have yet to acquire their own
reputation, which would lead to customers’ disbelief in their abilities.
In conclusion. I would reaffirm that the rise in the number of people working for
themselves may stem from a hostile environment at work and harsh demands of
employers, and that self-employment has some drawbacks regarding financial troubles
and a higher probability of bankruptcy.
