Follow by Email Hello!  Today I'm sharing the pattern for this little doily called Arcane Aura.  It has 8 rounds and measures about 4"
in diameter if using size 10 thread.  The thread I used is Aunt Lydias size 10 cotton crochet thread in the colors
Purple and Wood Violet.

Stitch Abbreviations

beg- beginning
ch- chain
dc- double crochet
hdc- half double crochet
sc- single crochet
st(s)- stitch(es)
yo- yarn over

Special Stitches

beg 3-dc cluster- ch 2, keeping last loop of each dc on hook, 2 dc in space indicated, yo and draw through all 3
loops on hook.

3-dc cluster- keeping last loop of each dc on hook, 3 dc in space indicated, yo and draw through all 4 loops on
hook.

cluster- ch 3, dc in third ch from hook.

picot- ch 3, slip st in third ch from hook.

[ ] - work enclosed instructions the amount of times indicated, or work enclosed instructions in the
stitch or space indicated

★ - repeat the following instructions the amount of times indicated.

( ) - Enclose additional information and the number of stitches at the end of a round.

Gauge

Rounds 1-4 measure about 11/2" in diameter.

Ch 5, slip st in 5th ch from hook to make a ring.

Round 1- ch 3 (counts as first dc), 15 dc in ring, slip st to third ch of first dc. (16 dc)

Round 2- ch 4 (counts as first dc and ch-1 space), [dc in next dc, ch 1] around, slip st to third ch of first dc. (16 dc,
16 ch-1 spaces)

Round 3- slip st in next ch-1 space, ch 1, sc in same space, [ch 2, sc in next ch-1 space] around, ch 1, sc in first sc
to make last ch-2 space. (16 sc, 16 ch-2 spaces)

Round 4- ch 1, sc in same space, [ch 3, sc in next ch-2 space] around, dc in first sc to make last ch-3 space. (16 sc,
16 ch-3 spaces)

Round 5- beg 3-dc cluster in same space, [ch 5, 3-dc cluster in next ch-3 space] around, ch 2, dc in first 3-dc
cluster to make last ch-5 space. (16 3-dc clusters, 16 ch-5 spaces)

Round 6- ch 6 (counts as first dc and ch-3 space), ★ [dc, ch 3] twice in center ch of next ch-5 space, skip next 5
sts, repeat from ★ around, dc in same st as first dc, ch 1, hdc in third ch of first dc to make last ch-3 space. (32
dc, 32 ch-3 spaces)

Round 7- ch 3 (counts as first dc), 3 dc in same space, slip st in next ch-3 space, [7 dc in next ch-3 space, slip st in
next ch-3 space] around, 3 dc in same space as first dc, slip st to third ch of first dc. (112 dc)

Round 8- cluster, picot, cluster, [skip next 6 dc, slip st in next dc, cluster, picot, cluster] around, slip st in same st
as first cluster made, fasten off and weave in ends. (32 clusters, 16 picots)

Blocking and Finishing

It is optional but recommended to block your finished piece. Fill a bowl with water and add some liquid starch if
you prefer the doily to be lightly stiffened. Soak the doily and gently press out any excess liquid, being careful not
to pull or twist on the stitches. Lay it flat on a blocking mat and pin the doily working from the center out to the
edges. Allow the doily to dry completely before removing the pins.

Here is a chart of the doily.  Start with ch 5 and slip st in the 5th ch from hook to make a ring.  There are 16 dc in
the first round.

Starting Round 8
Step 1- ch 3 and make a dc in the third ch from the hook (first cluster made).
Step 2- ch 3 and make a slip st in the third ch from the hook (picot made).
Step 3- Repeat Step 1 to make the second cluster.
Step 4- Skip the next 6 dc and make a slip st in the next dc (center dc of next 7-dc group).
