- Try using prints for pieces 1, 3, 5, and 7, and solids for pieces 2, 4, and 6. I
made this pillow using one print for pieces 1 and 5 and another print for pieces
3 and 7.

- Both the pillow to the left and the block pictured on the front of the pattern
use solids to create ombre. It’s not a hard look to achieve if you like it!

- Try using the same fabric in touching rows of “trees” to create different
visual shapes. In the block pictured on the front of the pattern, I used the
same fabric for pieces 6 and 7. Since these pieces touch each other,
they read as one section.

Use the coloring diagrams below to test out your color placement.
There is one diagram of each layout (pattern pieces in order ABAB or order BABA)
- In printing dialogue box, check “Do Not Scale”.

- Measure the 1” square to check for accurate printing.

- Print two copies of the pattern pieces. Cut them out and tape them together to create two full pattern pieces of
each Pattern A and Pattern B.

- Using your preferred paper piecing method, piece the four pattern pieces. Trim down along the 1/4” outer
seam lines.

- Sew together the four pieced patterns and then remove the foundation paper. (Alternatively, remove the paper
first, then sew together the four pieced patterns - there is no “right order” to do this in.) Press seams open.

- There are two possible layouts - place your columns next to each other in order ABAB or in order BABA.

- I suggest using up to 7 different fabrics. The number you choose will depend on your layout choice.

- Suggested cutting sizes (cut four of each to make one block):

Piece 1: 3” x 3”
Piece 2: 3” x 6”
Piece 3: 3” x 8”
Piece 4: 3” x 8”
Piece 5: 3” x 8”
Piece 6: 4” x 9”
Piece 7: 3” x 7”
