Background
During the winter of 2018-2019 I was informed of Oak Hill Adaptive Sports and Fitness. I
became interested in their approach to wellness and the various populations. I shadowed that
winter learning how all encompassing the health and fitness field could be. I was able to
become more comfortable working with clients and better able to understand their needs. After
advising appointments I realized I would need an internship and Oakhill Adaptive Sports and
Fitness was the only site I wanted to do it at. I chose this internship because I knew the staff
would give me the opportunity to grow with support. In the future I want to be able to work with
all clients and chapter 126 gives that chance. They also work with populations some trainers
would turn away or not know how to work with.

Professional Objectives
Objective 1: Learn techniques for working with special populations
Activities/Resources:
● Shadow and observe faculty and co- workers working with clients
● Ask or discuss with my supervisor and co-workers for advice or tips on the best ways of
how to work with/help them
● Attend group learning sessions to gain a better understanding of different populations
Evidence:
● Include in my portfolio at least 10 different techniques/ideologies for working with specific
populations

Professional Objectives
Objective 2: Facilitate Trainer Talk
Activities/Resources:
● Twice a week discuss with clients various health and wellness topics
● Run ideas through my supervisor and co-workers prior to each session
Evidence:
● Include in my portfolio plans of discussion topics reasoning for each topic

Objective 3: Co-facilitate personal training sessions and create plans of effective exercise
routines
Activities/Resources:
● Shadow or observe my supervisor and co-workers
● Review my supervisor and co-workers notes on personal training sessions
● Review with co-workers my plans for personal training sessions
Evidence:
● Provide an organized plan that I designed for a personal training session that was used
by a client during my internship.

Internship Details

Duties include:
● Shadow supervisor and co-workers during group counseling sessions
● Interact with clients at Oak Hill Adaptive Sports and Fitness to become familiar with
helping people with fitness and wellness goals
● Conduct new member orientations both virtually and in person
● Planning and programing group exercise classes/Facebook live sessions
● Research/ journal articles
● Cleaning
● Weekly meetings
● Marketing
Evaluation Methods:
● Completion of university evaluation forms
● Consistent communication with my supervisor concerning my overall work progress with
the internship
Expected Work Schedule:
● 40 hrs/ wk, Monday- Friday
● Start date: May 26, End date: August 1
