Evaluate the Book for the following elements
Style and Language: Using examples for the book, explain the following: Word
choices, dialogue, rhythm, rhyme and sentence length. Share unexpected insights or
interesting information the reader learns from this story. (5 points)
The story implements much action and what the characters say with emotion of
disgust when he saw the witch. The determination Gaston has when he declares he
is going to marry Belle. The story reflects a lot of the characters differences and how
their personalities represent them.

Character: With examples from the book, provide the following- (5 points)
Who is the main character?
How can the reader relate to the character?
Who are the supporting characters?
The main character is Beast he starts at the beginning as a selfish judging prince,
transitions into an ugly beast and ends up being a kind hearted man.

They can relate on how you should not judge others on what the outside may look
like. That no matter how someone may treat you to treat others to always stay true
to yourself like Belle does by being a kind person to Beast and seeing what he can
potentially become.

Plot: Summarize the major events of the story (6 points)

The Prince who is a mean, cold hearted, judging man is cursed by a witch for the way
he views and treats people gets turned into a beast with only a mirror to see others
on the outside and a rose to show how much time he has to change his ways. Beast
meets Belle under unfortunate circumstances and keeps her captive and through her
kind heart helps him change back into a handsome Prince not only on the outside but
the inside.
Setting: Explain the place and time of this book. (2 points)
Theme: What is the main message of this book? (2 points)
The time in this book in particular is taken place in older times the clothing quite
different even the way the charters are drawn have more of an ancient time than the
newer written books.

The main message I take is not treat people terribly because of their outside looks or
if they have money and power. Having kind heart is the beauty in everything and how
treating people are more beautiful than any person with looks and money.

Illustration: Analyze the book you selected with the following categories
Style (realism, surrealism, expressionism, impressionism, naïve, cartoon art)? (2
points)
Expressionism is what I take because it gives that expression from inner experience.

Media Choice (paints, oils watercolors, pencils, pen, charcoal, crayons, acrylic, chalk):
(2 points)
This original book looks like it has more watercolors are used in the drawings

Give examples of describe how the following visual elements are used in the
illustrations: (3)
Line: Very jagged and minimal the roses are swirl lines
Shapes: not much shapes going on mostly lines and a a lot going on as far as
background lines
Color: I love the color and how it blends and how rustic they look against each other
Texture: There is a lot of texture in this story book, I would honestly say too much
texture there is a lot that is going on with the trees and the castle. To where some of
it would have looked great without.
Page design (placement of the illustrations, use of borders, white and dark space and
all pages the same or different). (3)
There are many borders and each page is very different in this book. Each page the
actual story telling is in a different page than the last. The pages illustration cover
majority of each page. Most pages are not left without color or drawing.
Child Development Theory: Choose either Piaget, Erickson or Social Emotional to
describe the connection to the book Chose 1 only (5 points)

Erickson:
Name the stage ______Initiative Vs. Guilt________________ and the age_______3-
6 years________________
Explain the cognitive development from this stage and provide an example from the
book to support your choice:

I feel this stage best supports connection to the book because it strongly bases it on
how you treat others and feeling how someone may feel when being treated good or
bad. Not only with ones you love but with others around you and treating others
based on what kind of relationships you have with someone.

1 would not recommend 2 average 3 highly recommended

Your rating of the book: _____3_________

Why?
With how we teach children and how we want children to treat others nicely. I.E not
hitting back if they were hit and treating children and friends with kindness. Doing
things for the right reasons. I think this book does teach children that being a good
person and a kind person matter within the kindness of our heart and not how they
look or how much they have.
