1 SB 3.33.6 — To say nothing of the spiritual advancement of yan-nāmadheya-śravaṇānukīrtanād


persons who see the Supreme Person face to face, even a person yat-prahvaṇād yat-smaraṇād api kvacit
born in a family of dog-eaters immediately becomes eligible to
perform Vedic sacrifices if he once utters the holy name of the śvādo ’pi sadyaḥ savanāya kalpate
Supreme Personality of Godhead or chants about Him, hears kutaḥ punas te bhagavan nu darśanā
about His pastimes, offers Him obeisances or even remembers
Him.
2 SB 3.33.7 — Oh, how glorious are they whose tongues are aho bata śva-paco ’to garīyān
chanting Your holy name! Even if born in the families of dog- yaj-jihvāgre vartate nāma tubhyam
eaters, such persons are worshipable. Persons who chant the holy
name of Your Lordship must have executed all kinds of austerities tepus tapas te juhuvuḥ sasnur āryā
and fire sacrifices and achieved all the good manners of the brahmānūcur nāma gṛṇanti ye te
Āryans. To be chanting the holy name of Your Lordship, they must
have bathed at holy places of pilgrimage, studied the Vedas and
fulfilled everything required.
3 SB 4.3.23 — I am always engaged in offering obeisances to Lord sattvaṁ viśuddhaṁ vasudeva-śabditaṁ
Vāsudeva in pure Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Kṛṣṇa consciousness is yad īyate tatra pumān apāvṛtaḥ
always pure consciousness, in which the Supreme Personality of
Godhead, known as Vāsudeva, is revealed without any covering. sattve ca tasmin bhagavān vāsudevo
hy adhokṣajo me namasā vidhīyate
4 SB 4.22.39 — The devotees, who are always engaged in the service yat-pāda-paṅkaja-palāśa-vilāsa-bhaktyā
of the toes of the lotus feet of the Lord, can very easily overcome karmāśayaṁ grathitam udgrathayanti santaḥ
hard-knotted desires for fruitive activities. Because this is very
difficult, the nondevotees — the jñānīs and yogīs — although tadvan na rikta-matayo yatayo ’pi ruddha-
trying to stop the waves of sense gratification, cannot do so. sroto-gaṇās tam araṇaṁ bhaja vāsudevam
Therefore you are advised to engage in the devotional service of
Kṛṣṇa, the son of Vasudeva.
5 SB 4.30.19 — Those who are engaged in auspicious activities in gṛheṣv āviśatāṁ cāpi
devotional service certainly understand that the ultimate enjoyer puṁsāṁ kuśala-karmaṇām
or beneficiary of all activities is the Supreme Personality of
Godhead. Thus when one acts, he offers the results to the mad-vārtā-yāta-yāmānāṁ
Supreme Personality of Godhead and passes life always engaged na bandhāya gṛhā matāḥ
in the topics of the Lord. Even though such a person may be
participating in family life, he is not affected by the results of his
actions.
6 SB 4.30.35 — Whenever pure topics of the transcendental world yatreḍyante kathā mṛṣṭās
are discussed, the members of the audience forget all kinds of tṛṣṇāyāḥ praśamo yataḥ
material hankerings, at least for the time being. Not only that, but
they are no longer envious of one another, nor do they suffer from nirvairaṁ yatra bhūteṣu
anxiety or fear. nodvego yatra kaścana
7 SB 4.31.14 — As pouring water on the root of a tree energizes the yathā taror mūla-niṣecanena
trunk, branches, twigs and everything else, and as supplying food tṛpyanti tat-skandha-bhujopaśākhāḥ
to the stomach enlivens the senses and limbs of the body, simply
worshiping the Supreme Personality of Godhead through prāṇopahārāc ca yathendriyāṇāṁ
devotional service automatically satisfies the demigods, who are tathaiva sarvārhaṇam acyutejyā
parts of that Supreme Personality.
8 SB 5.5.1 — Lord Ṛṣabhadeva told His sons: My dear boys, of all the ṛṣabha uvāca
living entities who have accepted material bodies in this world, nāyaṁ deho deha-bhājāṁ nṛloke
one who has been awarded this human form should not work hard
day and night simply for sense gratification, which is available kaṣṭān kāmān arhate viḍ-bhujāṁ ye
even for dogs and hogs that eat stool. One should engage in tapo divyaṁ putrakā yena sattvaṁ
penance and austerity to attain the divine position of devotional
service. By such activity, one’s heart is purified, and when one śuddhyed yasmād brahma-saukhyaṁ tv
attains this position, he attains eternal, blissful life, which is anantam
transcendental to material happiness and which continues
forever.
9 SB 5.5.2 — One can attain the path of liberation from material mahat-sevāṁ dvāram āhur vimuktes
bondage only by rendering service to highly advanced spiritual tamo-dvāraṁ yoṣitāṁ saṅgi-saṅgam
personalities. These personalities are impersonalists and devotees.
Whether one wants to merge into the Lord’s existence or wants to mahāntas te sama-cittāḥ praśāntā
associate with the Personality of Godhead, one should render vimanyavaḥ suhṛdaḥ sādhavo ye
service to the mahātmās. For those who are not interested in such
activities, who associate with people fond of women and sex, the
path to hell is wide open. The mahātmās are equipoised. They do
not see any difference between one living entity and another.
They are very peaceful and are fully engaged in devotional service.
They are devoid of anger, and they work for the benefit of
everyone. They do not behave in any abominable way. Such
people are known as mahātmās.
10 SB 5.5.4 — When a person considers sense gratification the aim of nūnaṁ pramattaḥ kurute vikarma
life, he certainly becomes mad after materialistic living and yad indriya-prītaya āpṛṇoti
engages in all kinds of sinful activity. He does not know that due to
his past misdeeds he has already received a body which, although na sādhu manye yata ātmano ’yam
temporary, is the cause of his misery. Actually the living entity asann api kleśada āsa dehaḥ
should not have taken on a material body, but he has been
awarded the material body for sense gratification. Therefore I
think it not befitting an intelligent man to involve himself again in
the activities of sense gratification by which he perpetually gets
material bodies one after another.
11 SB 5.5.5 — As long as one does not inquire about the spiritual parābhavas tāvad abodha-jāto
values of life, one is defeated and subjected to miseries arising yāvan na jijñāsata ātma-tattvam
from ignorance. Be it sinful or pious, karma has its resultant
actions. If a person is engaged in any kind of karma, his mind is
called karmātmaka, colored with fruitive activity. As long as the yāvat kriyās tāvad idaṁ mano vai
mind is impure, consciousness is unclear, and as long as one is karmātmakaṁ yena śarīra-bandhaḥ
absorbed in fruitive activity, he has to accept a material body.
12 SB 5.5.8 — The attraction between male and female is the basic puṁsaḥ striyā mithunī-bhāvam etaṁ
principle of material existence. On the basis of this misconception, tayor mitho hṛdaya-granthim āhuḥ
which ties together the hearts of the male and female, one
becomes attracted to his body, home, property, children, relatives ato gṛha-kṣetra-sutāpta-vittair
and wealth. In this way one increases life’s illusions and thinks in janasya moho ’yam ahaṁ mameti
terms of “I and mine.”
13 SB 5.5.18 — One who cannot deliver his dependents from the path gurur na sa syāt sva-jano na sa syāt
of repeated birth and death should never become a spiritual pitā na sa syāj jananī na sā syāt
master, a father, a husband, a mother or a worshipable demigod.
daivaṁ na tat syān na patiś ca sa syān
na mocayed yaḥ samupeta-mṛtyum
14 SB 5.12.12 — My dear King Rahūgaṇa, unless one has the rahūgaṇaitat tapasā na yāti
opportunity to smear his entire body with the dust of the lotus na cejyayā nirvapaṇād gṛhād vā
feet of great devotees, one cannot realize the Absolute Truth. One
cannot realize the Absolute Truth simply by observing celibacy na cchandasā naiva jalāgni-sūryair
[brahmacarya], strictly following the rules and regulations of vinā mahat-pāda-rajo-’bhiṣekam
householder life, leaving home as a vānaprastha, accepting
sannyāsa, or undergoing severe penances in winter by keeping
oneself submerged in water or surrounding oneself in summer by
fire and the scorching heat of the sun. There are many other
processes to understand the Absolute Truth, but the Absolute
Truth is only revealed to one who has attained the mercy of a
great devotee.
15 SB 5.18.11 — By associating with persons for whom the Supreme yat-saṅga-labdhaṁ nija-vīrya-vaibhavaṁ
Personality of Godhead, Mukunda, is the all in all, one can hear of tīrthaṁ muhuḥ saṁspṛśatāṁ hi mānasam
His powerful activities and soon come to understand them. The
activities of Mukunda are so potent that simply by hearing of them haraty ajo ’ntaḥ śrutibhir gato ’ṅgajaṁ
one immediately associates with the Lord. For a person who ko vai na seveta mukunda-vikramam
constantly and very eagerly hears narrations of the Lord’s
powerful activities, the Absolute Truth, the Personality of
Godhead in the form of sound vibrations, enters within his heart
and cleanses it of all contamination. On the other hand, although
bathing in the Ganges diminishes bodily contaminations and
infections, this process and the process of visiting holy places can
cleanse the heart only after a long time. Therefore who is the sane
man who will not associate with devotees to quickly perfect his
life?
16 SB 5.18.12 — All the demigods and their exalted qualities, such as yasyāsti bhaktir bhagavaty akiñcanā
religion, knowledge and renunciation, become manifest in the sarvair guṇais tatra samāsate surāḥ
body of one who has developed unalloyed devotion for the
Supreme Personality of Godhead, Vāsudeva. On the other hand, a harāv abhaktasya kuto mahad-guṇā
person devoid of devotional service and engaged in material manorathenāsati dhāvato bahiḥ
activities has no good qualities. Even if he is adept at the practice
of mystic yoga or the honest endeavor of maintaining his family
and relatives, he must be driven by his own mental speculations
and must engage in the service of the Lord’s external energy. How
can there be any good qualities in such a man?
17 SB 6.1.10 — Sometimes one who is very alert so as not to commit kvacin nivartate ’bhadrāt
sinful acts is victimized by sinful life again. I therefore consider this kvacic carati tat punaḥ
process of repeated sinning and atoning to be useless. It is like the
bathing of an elephant, for an elephant cleanses itself by taking a
full bath, but then throws dust over its head and body as soon as it prāyaścittam atho ’pārthaṁ
returns to the land. manye kuñjara-śaucavat
18 SB 6.1.13 — To concentrate the mind, one must observe a life of tapasā brahmacaryeṇa
celibacy and not fall down. One must undergo the austerity of śamena ca damena ca
voluntarily giving up sense enjoyment. One must then control the
mind and senses, give charity, be truthful, clean and nonviolent, tyāgena satya-śaucābhyāṁ
follow the regulative principles and regularly chant the holy name yamena niyamena vā
of the Lord
19 SB 6.1.15 — Only a rare person who has adopted complete, kecit kevalayā bhaktyā
unalloyed devotional service to Kṛṣṇa can uproot the weeds of vāsudeva-parāyaṇāḥ
sinful actions with no possibility that they will revive. He can do
this simply by discharging devotional service, just as the sun can aghaṁ dhunvanti kārtsnyena
immediately dissipate fog by its rays. nīhāram iva bhāskaraḥ
20 SB 6.1.40 — The Yamadūtas replied: That which is prescribed in yamadūtā ūcuḥ
the Vedas constitutes dharma, the religious principles, and the veda-praṇihito dharmo
opposite of that is irreligion. The Vedas are directly the Supreme
Personality of Godhead, Nārāyaṇa, and are self-born. This we have hy adharmas tad-viparyayaḥ
heard from Yamarāja. vedo nārāyaṇaḥ sākṣāt
svayambhūr iti śuśruma
