Press Release Fairborn City Schools

Restart Information for 2020-2021
July 16, 2020

The Fairborn City School District “Restart” Plan is still evolving on what students and their
families can expect when classes resume in August for the Fairborn City School District. These
plans will continue to evolve even as the district continues to release additional guidelines with
more to come by the end of next week. Our Reset & Restart Plans includes two options for
parents to consider. Parents have the option of either sending their children to the school or to
participate in an online program– semester by semester. Details on that program are expected to
be released soon.

Option 1: Traditional Classroom Learning for PreK-12

Students’ in-person and in-buildings daily with safety protocols.
Option 1 is for families who are electing the traditional schooling experience in the fall of 2020
with students’ assigned to traditional classrooms with health and safety protocols in place that
include:
 Daily health assessments at home
 Face covering guidelines
 Social distancing guidelines as possible
 Increased attention to hygiene throughout the day
 Sanitize and clean the school environment
Option 1 includes a remote learning contingency plan if the school or district is required to
close that includes defined services for students with IEPs. The remote learning will be different
from the spring emergency closure remote learning and will include regular live interaction with
teachers.

Option 2: STUDENTS AT HOME DAILY WITH VIRTUAL SCHOOL FOR K-12

Individual online learning with support using GCESC Online Learning Collaborative.

Option 2 is for families who are electing to opt out of traditional schooling in the fall of 2020
and who wish to remain connected to the Fairborn City Schools district. Students will
participate in an online educational option to meet their learning needs. Option 2 with the
GCESC Online Learning Collaborative provides a high quality online educational experience
with Teacher-Student Advocates to help support their individual technology needs, program
questions, and content-related concerns.
 This online curriculum is self-paced and does not involve daily direct instruction from a
teacher.
 Required scheduled check in with the Teacher-Student Advocate
 Students with 504 plans or IEP plans continue to receive appropriate educational
accommodations
 Students will be provided learning targets to reach by the end of the semester to allow for
stronger support and a smoother transition for returning to school when conditions are
more favorable.
 Once a parent selects Option 2 they must remain in the GCESC Online Learning
Collaborative for the entire semester.
 Parents will have the option of returning to traditional learning in the classroom for the
second semester or selecting Option 2 for the remainder of the school year.

OPTION 2A: PRESCHOOL ONLY- PRESCHOOL STUDENTS AT HOME DAILY

WITH VIRTUAL SCHOOL FOR PRESCHOOL

Option 3 is for PRESCHOOL families who are electing to opt out of traditional schooling in the
fall of 2020 and who wish to remain connected to the Fairborn City Schools district. Students
will participate in an online educational option to meet their learning needs.
 Once a parent selects Option 3 they must remain in this option for the entire semester.
 Parents will have the option of returning to traditional learning in the classroom for the
second semester or selecting Option 3a for the remainder of the school year.
