PROJECT SUMMARY

This chapter includes the introduction, location of the project, technical description of the project,

descriptive definition of the project and objectives of the study.

1.1 Introduction

Education is a basic human right as well as a significant element in the development of

individuality. According to studies, education means a lot in everyone’s life as it facilitates our learning,

knowledge and skills. It completely stimulates our mind, affects our personality and helps us attain the

positive attitude. Education must be given utmost importance for it can become our source of genuine

happiness. Furthermore, everyone in the field of education should concentrate in improving it for the

country's development greatly relies on education.

Educational facilities are undeniably valuable assets of education that must be given prior

attention in terms of its establishment, development, and improvement. According to many researchers,

educational facilities can have a significant impact on both teacher and student outcomes with respect to

teachers. Educational facilities affect teacher requirement, retention, commitment, health, behavior,

engagement, learning, and growth in achievement. We generally conclude that without adequate facilities

and resources, it is extremely difficult to serve large numbers of students with complex needs.

Moreover, we need the education system to provide everyone an access not only to basic

education but also to higher and technical education. The Department of Education (DepEd) provides

adaptation of K-12 program as new education system. Program offerings available for senior high school

students (grade 11-12) under the academic track of this program are Accountancy, Business and

Management (ABM), Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS), Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics (STEM), and General Academic; the Sports tracks; the Arts and Design tracks; and various

specializations under the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) track

A 12-year program is found to be the best period for learning under basic education. It is

also the recognized standard for students and professionals globally. The demand of establishments and

educational facilities are increasing due to the additional number of years that high school students take

before advancing in college. Many municipalities in our country come across to this problem particularly

in rural areas because most of the high school institutions are not ready for the program and not able to

cater the growing number of students. Moreover, the continual increasing number of students every

school year supplements the concern. An example of this is municipality of Lian in province of Batangas

wherein program for Senior High School is offered but still there’s luck of classrooms and facilities for

the needs of students.

Lian has a population of 44,925 from 19 Barangays as reported from the 2007 NSO census. There

are 14 public elementary schools, 2 private elementary schools, 3 private high schools and 2 public high

schools serving the whole municipality. These data were gathered from the Municipal Planning and

Development Coordinator Office of the municipality of Lian. With insufficient number of educational

institutions, many students have to travel to schools of nearby municipalities especially those in High

School to pursue their studies.

Lian Senior High School is the only public senior high school in the municipality of Lian. The

school has a total of 26 rooms, 6 of which are actively in use for instructional purposes. The school has a

total of 366 students as of S.Y. 2016-2017 and serves almost 16 barangays. According to the

administration of the school, they are offering the track of Accountancy, Business and Management

(ABM), Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS), Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

(STEM), and various specializations under the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL).
