Geographically China was isolated by the Himalayan mountains to the east
of the country, by the ocean to the west and by the deserts to the north.
There also was man made isolation by the creation of The Great Wall of
China. It was built to keep Mongol enemies away from their territory.

One of the main advantages of the isolation was the protection that they
had from their enemies and there was also an easier control of the
population from outside ideas due to inhability of communication because
citizens didn’t have access to information from other countries.

The disadvantages were that there was no trading with other countries for
economic grouth.

The People's Republic of China was founded in 1949 after the Communist
Party defeated the nationalist Kuomintang.

Many Chinese practice both Chinese folk-religion and Buddhism.
