Geography:
Area: China is about 9.6 million square kilometres in area. It is the second largest country by land area. Cities: The capital city is Beijing. Other major cities are Shanghai which is the largest city and Hong Kong. Terrain: China has a great variety of landscapes. In general, the higher elevations are found in the west of the country. Mountains occupy 43% of the countrys landscape. China also has many rivers including the Yangtze River, the Yellow River and the Pearl River. Climate: The climate of China is very diverse. The north of the country is subarctic and its dry in the south. Monsoon winds dominate the climate and there are sharp variations in the temperature and precipitation. China also experiences numerous typhoons, damaging floods, tsunamis, dust storms and droughts. Where it is situated in the World: China is situated in Far East Asia. Its bordering countries are Mongolia, Russia, North Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Bhutan, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
