SHORT LESSON PLAN ADAPTED BASED ON THE THEMES FROM THE MOVE
“THE HELP”.
The idea behind this short lesson plan is to try to incorporate some themes from the movie into activities for
3rd grade students.

INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES
Warm-up Resources/Materials Time

In pairs, students will draw around each other’s Sheets of paper. 15 minutes.

Racism.

The reason why we decided to incorporate this

theme through this activity is because it is a
great way to show students that even though we
might look different from outside, we all have
positive things to give and regardless of their
race, they should always respect each other and
learn that racism can be a serious emotional
abuse that will hurt other people’s feelings.

Core activities

Students will be given a worksheet with different Worksheet. 25 minutes.

they will have to choose the right thing that the
characters should do. After they’ve all finished,
the teacher will let them share their answers by
showing some flashcards that contain the same
situations they have in their worksheets, this will
get all the class involved in order to check
whether the majority of them chose the right thing
to do or not.

Just like in the movie, having students work on

this activity will help them understand that even
when everything in the world is trying to tell you
what to do and what to believe, you need to make
your own path by choosing to do good things and
what they think is correct

Closure

Finally, students will watch a short video called https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcruIov45bI 20 minutes.

“happiness is helping others” a couple times and
the teacher will get them to share what they think
the message of the video was. Before they go,
they will be asked to bring a picture of them
helping someone and show it to the rest of the
class explaining why they think it is good to help
others.

Hypocrisy.

The purpose of having students watch this short

video and analyze it, is for them to understand
that you should always help those in need without
expecting anything in exchange, that you should
not help people because you want something from
them or any type of recognition, but because you
that is the right thing to do.
