Case: - Sherif Mityas at A. T.

Kearney Pravish Khare (19F541)

Who is Sherif Mityas?

An immigrant Egyptian from a well-educated family. An Aerospace Engineer who thought

of pursuing MBA to learn about the business perspective of the things he had been working
on. His interests shifted towards Consulting during his summer internship and soon after
finishing his MBA he started working for A. T. Kearney as a full time associate.

Mityas at A. T. Kearney: -

He worked in various projects in domains like Supply Chain, Automobile Industry, and
Financial Services. He was elated that his choice of working in consultant was a right one
after completion of such projects and he became a go-to consultant in the firm.

His experience in the firm has been great; he was trusted to handle clients very early in his
career, he got exposed to technology, various industries which help him broaden his
perspective.

Mityas as Manager

After he was promoted to a Manager he got to work with Tom Whitney (Partner) on ZPW
(Zen Products Worldwide), Japanese client of the firm. ZPW was a well-established
consumer goods manufacturer in the Asia-Pacific market but has been struggling to
succeed in the US market, which is when A. T. Kearney US office comes in to the picture.

Mityas picked up John Moore (An Associate Mityas trusted for his analytical skills) to work
with him on the case. Mityas and John divided the whole process into two phases (6 weeks
each):

Phase 1 – Analyzing the main issue, performing Root cause analysis and providing
recommendations. Here he interacted with the seniors at the US office to know more about
the ground reality.

Phase 2 – Implementation plans, resource requirements and developing specific business

cases.

After completion of Phase 1 and presenting the findings to the ZUSA team and ZEN HQ
team a big question was put up in front of Mityas by ZEH HQ officials:

Is the US team capable enough drive through this after implementing the suggestions and
should the HQ team really invest or should they close down the US offices?
