Document Development Exposition: Instructions and Usability Test Script

Explain in detail your document’s development from planning to finish, describing your
challenges, how you overcame them, and what you learned.

Planning
To plan the Instructions assignment, I started by washing my car. I made notes as I was doing each
step to remind myself to include the information in my first draft. I also took photos of each step to
include as graphics. The challenging part was to think in steps how to do a task that I do
automatically because I’ve done it so often. Writing notes forced me to break my actions down into
steps.

First Draft (for peer editing)

Using my notes and photos, I worked out a rough draft, using a sequential approach. The challenge
was to incorporate a lot of technical data and methodology in the limited space available. I
addressed this challenge by using subheadings, titles, bulleted lists and numbered lists.

Second Draft (for your packet)

The focus for the second draft was to make my presentation visually appealing and easy for the
reader to understand. I used adequate photos to illustrate the materials I was using as well as
technique.

Final Draft (for your portfolio)

The focus for the final draft was to break down some steps that contained too much information. I
accomplished this by creating additional steps, new subsections and additional notes. I also changed
some information to bullet lists. The last task was to improve some format issues by removing some
indentations.
