Lesson Plan Earth Science 9

I. Objectives
After a 60- minute discussion about stars, about
85 percent of Grade 9-Helium and Grade 9-Sodium must
have:
1. determined the different characteristics of
stars;
2. described the relationship between the color
of a star and its brightness; and
3. differentiated apparent magnitude and absolute
magnitude.

II. Learning Content

A. Subject Matter:
Stars
B. Content Outline:
 Characteristics of Stars
 The sun
 Known stars and their distinct properties

C. Science Concepts
 Stars
 Huge, massive spheres of glowing light
 Sparkling like diamonds in the sky
 Diameter is about millions of kilometers
 Emits large amounts of radiant energy from
nuclear reactions (between hydrogen and
helium) in its interior
 SUN, the closest star on Earth.
 Characteristics of Stars
 Color indicates the surface temperature
of a star.
 Size- stars although they appear
similarly in the sky their sizes still
varies.
 Magnitude or Brightness
Apparent magnitude and Absolute
magnitude
D. Science Process Skills

 Inferring  Analyzing
 Defining  Predicting
 Observing
 Communicating
 Explaining

E. Values Focus
 Shows interest about the lesson;
 Openness to share opinions and ideas to
others;
 Eager to learn new things and ideas;
 Participate actively in class discussions and
activity.
