SPLICE EFFICIENCY TEST OF
TEXTILE BELT
7. Testing apparatus:
A suitable tensile testing machine with the following features shall be used.
1. Load accuracy shall be ± 1.0%
2. Rate of traverse of the grip shall be 100± 10 mm / min.during the test
3. The machine shall indicate the maximum load at the breaking of the test piece.
4. The jaws of the machine shall move without undue friction and in perfect alignment and without slippage and
damage to the test piece.
8. Test Procedure:
The sample piece shall be held in the testing machine with clamps in such a way as to ensure uniform distribution of
tensile force over the whole width. The machine should show increase of tensile force steadily and at a specified rate
until the test piece ruptures. At this point the maximum load to be noted and it is considered the breaking load.
Note:
(1) However, if one of the 3 test results is found below the acceptable splice joint strength, then 2 additional samples shall be
taken from the vicinity of the test piece (which failed the test ) and tested. If any of these test results falls below the acceptable
splice joint strength then the splice joint shall be deemed to have failed
(2) Before conducting the splice breaking strength ensure that the Ply-Ply adhesion strength from the spliced area
shall be greater or equal to that in the original belt and meets the specification.
