Meaning of adolescent under various Indian Laws

 THE CHILD AND ADOLESCENT LABOUR (PROHIBITION .A,ND REGULATION) ACT, 1986
Under this act adolescent is defined in section 2(1)
"Adolescent" means a person who has completed his fourteenth year of ate but has not
completed his eighteenth year,

 The Plantations Labour Act, 1951


Section 2(a)
“Adolescent” means a person who has completed his  [fourteenth] year but has
not completed his eighteenth year;

Definition of minor

Under the Indian Contract act, 1872

According to the Indian contract act, 1872 a minor is said to be those individual who has not
attained the age of 18 years. But it does not specify the lower age.

A Contract made with a Minor is Void

Since any contract with minor, that is any individual less than 18 years of age cannot
contract, so any minor agreement which has been formed is void ab-initio (from the
beginning).

THE GUARDIANS AND WARDS ACT, 1890

This act defined minor under section 4(1) as :

“Minor” means a person who, under the provisions of the Indian Majority Act, 1875 (9 of
1875), is to be deemed not to have attained his majority;

THE HINDU MINORITY AND GUARDIANSHIP ACT, 1956

Section 4(a) of this act defined minor as :

“Minor” means a person who has not completed the age of eighteen years.
