CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT OF LUCY IN AHERN’S THE TIME OF

MY LIFE

ABSTRACT

This study aims as revealing the character development of Lucy Sichester in

Ahern’s The Time of My Life.

In conducting this research, the writer uses qualitative research in which the
data collected in the form of words and quotation from the novel and other books to
substantiate the presentation and objective approach to achieve accuracy in carrying
out the analysis. The writer collects the data from primary that is The Time of my
Life by Cecilia Ahern, and secondary source includes book explaining research,
literature, background of the author, and some other references which are relevant
and support the analysis. This thesis the writer analyzes Lucy Silchester, one of the
characters in the novel who had the hardest struggle between the other characters and
later develops in the flow of the novel. The explanation covers Lucy’s plot in order to
find out Lucy’s behaviors in the story and her relationship with other characters for
the purpose of finding out the factors of her character development which become
the objective of this work.

The result of the research shows that Lucy is a career girl who has a bit mess
life, the beginning in the novel the main character no cares herself, likes lie to
everyone, busied herself with her friends and her family after her broke up with her
boyfriend, through the all experiences and challenges from her father and her friends
even she find out a man as her true friend Lucy character had change.
