Travel Advisory Road Safety @ Monsoon season

Do’s
 Business critical travel to be undertaken with due judgment on prevailing /
forecasted weather conditions
 Drive slow on wet roads – speed within 30 – 40kmph
 Allow large vehicle from behind to overtake safely
 Restrict 2W usage on highways beyond city limits
 Vehicles & driving should be monitored using DBM system

Don’ts
X No driving / riding if heavy downpour prevailing or forecasted
X Avoid night driving – Plan the journey to reach destination within daylight
X DO NOT trail large vehicles, maintain safe distance
X DO NOT drive through flooded roads & landslide prone terrains

Do’s
 Fit for use vehicle, preferably SUV, to be use Faulty wiper
 Mandatory pre-monsoon service from authorized service center
 Tyre treads must be in good condition
 Functionality of wipers must be checked to ensure good visibility
 Tail lights and Brake lights must be functional
 Head lights must be functional
 Windshield washer fluid must be topped up at all times
 Vehicles must have EMERGENCY Nos. displayed & emergency kit

Advisory on Driver Road Safety @ Monsoon season

Do’s
 Driver must have adequate rest before driving
 2W riders MUST WEAR reflective jacket / sling & vehicle stickers at all times
 2W riders should not ride during heavy rain/storm
 Check the braking efficiency after crossing a submerged road

Don’ts
X Drivers not experienced in highway driving should avoid highways during rains
X No driving without mandatory VIL approved defensive driving training

Do’s
 Shifting of equipment to higher level or soil filling for sites in low lying areas
 Ensure drainage system hygiene – dewatering pump, drain lines, site vegetation etc.
 Ensure weather proofing for cable entry points and shelter roof
 Ensure sufficient BB backups and DG in automation mode for business critical sites
 Rectify cable joints, faulty safety devices, earthing connections
 Mandate risk assessment & Tool Box Talk before entering sites
 Keep sufficient PPEs, umbrella and rain-coats with field teams
 Keep emergency numbers including local hospitals having anti-venom treatment facility

Don’ts
X Entering flooded sites without approval of respective line manager
X Touching of equipment, cables, switches etc. in live condition when it is wet
X Use of mobile phone or standing under tree during C2

Do’s
 Cordoning of the working area with high visibility tape / signage / traffic cone

 Retaining walls for edge protection in landslide/erosion prone areas in the route

 All 1@risk must use rain coat with high reflective sticker during rain

 Water logged surface must be thoroughly checked in anticipation of open manhole

Don’ts
X Touch any electrical pole in wet condition as there could be leakage current

X Work in submerged locations/pits without adequate risk assessment

Do’s
 Ensure all LT/HT panels are free from any leakage or damage

 All Electrical Safety Devices like SPD, RCCB/ELCB , rubber mat etc. are in healthy condition

 Earthing of equipment , lightning arrester is in working condition

 Switch off the power supply for a water logged panel

 Do disconnect all the electrical/ electronics equipment/gadgets during lightning

 Always wear electrical gloves while handling equipment

X Standing under any High Tension line

X Touching any electrical pole or metallic structure during rains

X Operate any electrical equipment/gadgets in wet condition

 Check for presence of rusting and crack in structures and foundations

 Ensure proper tightening of nuts & bolts and grouting of access ladders and tower legs

Do’s
 Check for presence of any live electrical cable on structure

 Ensure no trees / branches are obstructing access to structure

Don’ts
X No W@H activities during thunderstorm/rain/wet condition of structure

X Never use any wet Personal Protective Equipment for W@H activities

X Ensure no loosened nut-bolts/ fixtures/ cables are left behind in the

structure while work is postponed during rain/thunderstorm

Onsite Practices Snake Bite @ Monsoon season

Do’s
 Site level risk assessment for high vegetation/ snake prone areas

 Wear gumboots and long trousers

 Keep emergency numbers including local hospitals having


anti-venom treatment facility
 Stand completely still in case of a snake attack –snakes mostly strike at moving targets

 In case of snake bite don’t panic, try to remember the shape, size and color of the
Snake, Keep the part of your body that has been bitten as still as possible, remove
jewelry and watches from the bitten limb and seek immediate medical assistance
Don’ts
X Never pick up a snake, even if you think it is harmless or appears dead

X Never put your hand in a hole or crevice – for example, between rocks.

If you need to retrieve something, stand well back and use aC2stick to reach it

General Instruction Flood time special care
Do’s
 Keep abreast of all local news/update on flood situation from authentic sources

 Watch for rapidly rising flood waters and avoid areas subject to sudden flooding

 If necessary to evacuate, move to a safe area before access is cut off by flood waters

 Turn off electricity at main switch in the building before evacuation

 Ensure employees wear life jackets while crossing or negotiating flooded areas

Don’ts

X Cross a culvert/bridge if water is flowing over it, even if in a vehicle

X Undertake journey after dark in flood affected areas

X Attempt to cross rivers of flowing streams where water level is above the knee.

Do’s
 Always avoid standing by the side of a flooded river/stream.

 Never cross a makeshift bamboo bridge.

 Rescue support should be taken only from authorized organization

 Wear life jacket/ life buoy and carry necessary PPE while

going for restoration of sites , diesel filling etc.

 Switch off electrical equipment which are under water

Don’ts
X Access any flooded site without risk assessment and due approval

X Temporary shifting and reinstallation of panels, switch gears etc. without OME support
