  Writing 2B: First Impressions of Ibsen’s Characters

Using the diagrams below, list words or phrases that you would use to describe your impressions of the
characters from An Enemy of the People after having read Acts I and II. This will give you a starting point
to relate to as the characters change.  Be sure to fill in each of the boxes below the character names. 
This assignment is worth 42 points – 2 points for each box filled in.

Dr. Stockman
The doctor values health The doctor is self-confident,

own comfort and well-being.
She believed that even if she
and her family were to be
subjected to hardships for
exposing the truth, it would not
matter because the people
deserved to know the truth
behind the spa.
Petra is a dreamer, who
longs for an ideal world
where lies are not told
and the truth reigns
supreme, but is also a
realist and understands
that she does not have
the capability to teach
the truth to the children.

He is a greedy man, He is a selfish man, for he
