Elon’s DanceWorks to hold auditions for its Spring Show

The student-run dance organization will be holding open auditions for its 2020 Spring Show.

DanceWorks, a student-run dance organization at Elon University, will hold open

auditions for its annual Spring Show on Saturday, Dec. 7. The audition will take place in Koury

Center Studio 5 on Elon’s campus. DanceWorks is looking for students interested in

choreographing or performing for the show. The choreographer audition call will begin at 9:30

a.m. and the dancer call will begin at 10 a.m. All students who audition are guaranteed to be a

part of the show. There is not a specific date for the Spring Show yet, but auditions occur ahead

of time to give students enough time to rehearse for the show.

Students should come early to fill out an audition form and

warm up. Choreographers should come prepared with at least 30

seconds of movement to show. Dancers will learn two short

combinations and then perform in small groups for the audition. The audition environment is

designed to be low stress. All students with varying dance experience and a passion to move are

encouraged to attend.

It is recommended that students planning to audition for the Spring Show attend

DanceWorks weekly classes. Classes take place in Koury Center Studio 6 from 6:45 - 7:45 p.m.

every Tuesday and in the Center for the Arts on occasional Saturday mornings. DanceWorks

executive board and student staff teach the classes in various dance styles.
Marissa Mahony, a junior at Elon University and current president of the organization, is

excited about the upcoming auditions in preparing to produce the Spring Show, which is

DanceWorks’ biggest annual show.

“Our three shows are always packed and full of energy as students show off for their

friends and family in the audience,” Mahony said.

Eliana Sakin, a junior at Elon University, has performed and choreographed for the

Spring Show the past two years and is looking forward to the show this year. She choreographed

a tap piece last semester that has been seen at other events around campus this semester in

addition to the Spring Show.

“It’s nice to work with people from other parts of campus that I otherwise wouldn’t get to

be with and share our love of tap together,” Sakin said. “It’s really exciting to do something

different on campus for fun and not for a grade.”

Hello, Amanda.

I saw on Twitter that you are looking for more opportunities for students to get involved in stress

free activities on Elon’s campus.

With this in mind, I would like to introduce to you DanceWorks, Elon’s student-run dance

organization that provides opportunities for students to choreograph, teach, perform and grow in

their dance skills.

DanceWorks invites students of varying prior dance experience and interest in different styles of

dance. The organization is a supportive community and a great way to meet others who are also

looking to relieve the stress of college. DanceWorks classes and Spring Show rehearsals are a

great way for students to free their mind and body from the stress of their coursework.

This would be a good news story or TV package for ENN as it would bring in student viewers,

especially underclassmen who are looking to get more involved on campus. Student viewers

who enjoy this package would likely continue to be an audience and help expand the news

network.

If you would like more information or have any questions, you can reach out to DanceWorks

president Marissa Mahony at elondanceworks@gamil.com.

Sincerely,
Alexandra Strouse
