Positive Consequences A-Z

A
Advisory Fieldtrips will occur three times per year and will be planned by all
advisories independently.

After school programs take place every day and include many extra-curricular
activities such as athletics, dance, study hall, tutoring, Girls for a Change, Youth
Speaks, Just Run and Debate. Others will be added throughout the year. This is a great
chance to express yourself in a different manner!

The Cal Prep Student Store is open every other Wednesday during the lunch break. It
stocks school supplies, Snacks, Cal Prep T-Shirts, gift cards, sports equipment, art
supplies and other items you suggest!

Caught with Cares certificates can be given by anyone in the school community (i.e.
students, parents, staff and teachers) to anyone else in the school community. They are
given to reward behaviors that are reflective of cooperative, assertive, responsible,
empathetic acts throughout the community. Caught with Cares certificates do not carry
a point value, but can be turned in for participation in the bi-weekly Caught with
Cares drawing. You are encouraged to keep Caught with Cares notes to remind
yourself of how great you are!

Club Release is a reward for students who have achieved honor roll standing. Students
who have achieved honor roll standing will be released from support period to
participate in one of the Cal Prep Clubs.

Students recommended for the Dean’s List can be students who have struggled with
effective decision-making, but of late are making better decisions. Students receive a
certificate, school store points, and recognition in the school community.

Early Release from Support Period is a reward that is given to the entire school by
support period proctors when all of the students participating are deliberate and
purposeful in the completion of assignments during support period.

FIOF Reward Tickets are given by Principal Reed. During standardized testing
weeks. These tickets are given to students who can answer standardized test questions
upon request. They can be used as cash at the student store.

Free Dress is a reward that is given every Friday. It is a reward for student who have
been present each day in the week as well as on time to school and all classes during
the week.

Homecoming
Student Government and families will plan our Homecoming and Halloween dance.
They will be a celebration of spirit and accomplishment.

The Honor Roll Recognition Ceremony is a ceremony to recognize students who


have achieved honor roll standing at the close of the quarterly grading period. This
ceremony takes place at the close of the quarter each term.

Classroom teachers give Individual Teacher Incentives to students. Individual
teachers may give out individualized classroom rewards to the students who most
demonstrate CARES in their classroom.

Inspirational Fieldtrips are opportunities for Cal Prep students to go on fieldtrips with
professionals from the UC Berkeley Partnership. These field trips include trips to
laboratories, law libraries, campus, musical productions and faculty clubs.

At the beginning of each school year, the faculty and staff of Cal Prep host a New
Student Luncheon. This luncheon is designed to welcome new students to the Cal
Prep school community. All students new to Cal Prep are invited to attend the new
student luncheon. In addition, each new student is invited to bring an enrolled student
as a guest.

The Outstanding Civics Award is given at quarterly town hall events. It is given to
students who routinely demonstrate outstanding citizenship throughout the Cal Prep
school community. A student is eligible for this award if he or she has gone for a
certain amount of time with no infractions and/or detentions and OTS referrals.

The Positive Referral is a medium level reward that is given by teachers and staff
only. Positive referrals are intended to reinforce behaviors that are reflective of
CARES and overall good decision-making. These referrals are worth 10 points at the
student store. The Cal Prep Student Store is open every other Wednesday during the
lunch break.

The Perfect Attendance Breakfasts is a reward that will be given to an entire class
when 97% of the students in that class arrive to school and all classes on time during
one calendar month.

Perfect Attendance Certificates are given by Dean Correal. They are given to students
who’ve had perfect attendance over the course of a two-week period. These certificates
are worth 25 points at the student store.

Progress Parties take place once each month. The purpose of the progress party is to
celebrate the academic achievement of students who have demonstrated satisfactory
academic progress in all classes, that is A’s, B’s, and C’s in all classes with no more
that 1 C-. Progress parties are off campus lunch for high school students and on
campus pizza and/or ice cream for middle school students.

The Junior and Senior Prom will be planned by students and families and will occur
in the spring.

At the close of each school year, the faculty and staff of California College Preparatory
School host a Spring Awards Ceremony. This awards ceremony celebrates the
academic, extra curricular and civic accomplishments of students at each grade level.

The Student of the Month Certificate is given to students who consistently


demonstrate CARES- Cooperation, Assertiveness, Responsibility, Empathy and Self
Control- in word and deed throughout the school community.

Student organizations include Student Government and the Student Ambassador


corps. These organizations have a huge part in running of the school and you are
encouraged to participate.

The Spirit Week/Spirit Day events are scheduled throughout the school year. These
events are designed to promote spirited, positive competition between advisory classes.
Students in good civic standing are permitted to participate in spirit week and spirit day
events.

There are three scheduled School Dances: Halloween/Homecoming, Winter Ball and
Spring Fling that will be planned by Student Government, families and staff.

School-wide 3.00 GPA When all students at Cal Prep earn a minimum GPA of 3.00
School –wide, the faculty and staff of Cal Prep will orchestrate a one day school wide
field-trip to Great America.

Talent shows will occur throughout the year and all students are encouraged to
participate and show their talent!!

The Tricia’s Kids Certificate is a certificate that Ms. Trish, our campus supervisor,
gives at quarterly Town hall events. Tricia’s Kids Certificates are given to students that
have not quite risen to the level of the Dean’s List but are demonstrating better
decision-making skills. This certificate is worth 25 points at the student store.

Town hall Meetings are celebratory events Student of the Month, Dean’s List,
Honor Roll and Outstanding Civics’ awards may be given at town-hall meetings.

W
Week without Walls is an event that takes place once per year during the last week of
the school year. During the week without walls, students and staff participate in non-
standards based educational activities and endeavors that students choose. Many of
these programs include field trips.
