The five
components
of a good
lesson plan!
Opening/Hook/Spark

- Capture attention through a fun

activity, question or task!

- Lasts between 5-10 minutes!

- Can also be used to revise any

information in a fun way

For eg. If I want my students to learn

about a balanced diet, I may ask them
to make a chart of what they ate in a
day.
Introduction to New
Material (INM)

- Learn new information in a

meaningful, rigorous and holistic
way.
- Use innovative lesson methods to
build skills and cater to different
learning styles.

For eg. If I have to teach the Barter

System, I may make different groups in
my class and get them to roleplay and
trade.
Guided Practice (GP)

- Get students to practice what they

have learnt through group work or
any kind of hands on learning
- This is where you can clarify any
doubts or even differentiate.

For eg. If I am teaching different types of

waste/segregation of waste, I may ask
students to go around the school (in
groups) and identify and note the different
types of waste they see.
Independent Practice
(IP)

- Assess the individual learning of

each child through a short test/exit
slip.

- This diagnostic data helps you

understand how you can support
students better.

- This is also where you can

differentiate!
Closing

- Synthesis
- Reflection

Eg. Let’s reflect on our class values

and rate our performance from 0-5.
