Foreword

This Standard, through modification, adopts the international standard ISO


6308:1980 "Gypsum plasterboard - specification" (English version).

This Standard was redrafted based on ISO 6308:1980.

As for the clause number comparison between this Standard and ISO
6308:1980, SEE Appendix A.

As compared with ISO 6308:1980, this Standard has the following technical
differences:

- In this Standard, ADD the sheet types, requirements, and test methods
for the water & fire resistant gypsum plasterboard;

- In this Standard, ADD the requirements and tests methods for the
appearance quality, diagonal length difference, surface density,
hardness, impact resistance, bond performance of covering paper and
core material, water absorption rate, surface water absorption amount,
and fire stability.

- In this Standard, ADD the length specifications of a variety of gypsum


plasterboard;

- In this Standard, ADD the thickness specification of 18.0 mm, 21.0 mm,
and 25.0 mm gypsum plasterboard;

- In this Standard, ADJUST one thickness specification of gypsum


plasterboard from 12.5 mm to 12.0 mm;

- In this Standard, ADD the inspection rules;

- In this Standard, ADD the marking, packaging, storage, and transport;

Gypsum plasterboard

1 Scope

This standard specifies the terms and definitions, classification and marking,
requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging, storage
and transport of gypsum plasterboard.

This standard is applicable to the gypsum plasterboard which is used as the


unloaded interior partition wall AND suspended ceiling in building; it is also
applicable to the base plate for the decorative gypsum plasterboard which
needs secondary facing processing.

2 Normative references

The provisions in following documents become the provisions of this


Standard through reference in this Standard. For the dated references, the
subsequent amendments (excluding corrections) or revisions do not apply to
this Standard; however, parties who reach an agreement based on this
Standard are encouraged to study if the latest versions of these documents
are applicable. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced
document applies.

3 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this Standard.

3.1

Edge

It refers to the paper-covered longitudinal edge.

3.2

End

It refers to the cutting edge perpendicular to the edge.

The sheet’s water absorption rate shall not be less than 10%.

5.11 Surface water absorption amount (only applicable to water


resistant gypsum plasterboard AND water & fire resistant gypsum
plasterboard)

The sheet’s surface water absorption amount shall be not more than 160
g/m2.

5.12 Fire stability (only applicable to fire resistant gypsum plasterboard


AND water & fire resistant gypsum plasterboard)

The sheet’s fire stability duration shall not be less than 20 min.

5.13 Moisture deflection

It shall be determined by the Supplier and Demander through negotiation.

5.14 Shear force

It shall be determined by the Supplier and Demander through negotiation.

6 Test methods

6.1 Test equipment and instruments

6.1.1 Steel tape: the maximum range is 5000 mm, AND the scale value is 1
mm.

6.1.2 Steel ruler: the maximum range is 1000 mm, AND the scale value is 1
mm.

6.1.3 Thickness tester: the maximum range is 30 mm, AND the scale value is
0.01 mm.

6.1.4 Wedge edge depth tester: the maximum range is 10 mm, AND the
scale value is 0.01 mm.

6.1.5 Electronic scale: the sensitivity is 1 g.

6.1.6 Electronic balance: the sensitivity is 0.01 g.

6.1.7 Electric blast oven: the maximum temperature is 300 °C, and the
temperature controller sensitivity is ± 1 °C.

6.1.8 Sheet bending tester: the maximum range is 2000 N, AND the accuracy
is level 1.

6.1.9 Pressure tester: the maximum range is 2000 N, AND the accuracy is
level 1.

6.1.10 Impact resistance tester: the steel ball diameter is 50 mm, AND the
steel ball mass is 510 g.

6.1.11 Covering paper and gypsum core bond tester: the load mass is 3 kg.

6.1.12 Paper surface absorption weight tester: the cylinder drum inner
diameter is 113 mm.

6.1.13 Fire stability tester: the flaming head diameter is (40 ± 1) mm, the
flaming nozzle diameter is (2.5 ± 0.1) mm, the maximum temperature is
900 °C, AND the accuracy is level 1.

6.1.14 Moisture deflection test chamber: it can be adjusted to the


temperature of (32 ± 2) °C AND the relative humidity of (90 ± 3) %.

6.2 Test conditions

As for the laboratory which is used for the measurement of surface density,
breaking load, hardness, impact resistance, bond performance of covering
paper and core material, AND water absorption rate, it shall reach to the test
environmental conditions of temperature (25 ± 5) °C AND relative humidity
(50 ± 5) %. As for the laboratory which is used for the measurement of
surface water absorption amount, it shall reach to the test environmental
conditions of temperature (25 ± 5) °C AND relative humidity (50 ± 3) %.

6.3 Sample and Specimen

USE five sheets as a set of samples; MEASURE in orders the appearance


quality, the dimensional deviation, the diagonal length difference, AND the
wedge edge cross-sectional area; at the locations over 100mm away from
the sheet periphery (except for the samples which are used for end hardness
and edge hardness measurement), in accordance with the direction,
dimension, and quantity as specified in Table 4, CUT samples and NUMBER
them, in order to use for the rest tests.

As for the sample which will be subject to end hardness measurement, at any
end of the sheet in accordance with Table 4, CUT samples; ENSURE its
distance to the edge is over 100 mm. As for the sample which will be subject
to edge hardness measurement, at both edges of the sheet in accordance
with Table 4, CUT two samples; ENSURE its distance to the end is over 100
mm.

6.5.1 Appearance quality inspection

Under the bright lighting conditions, at the location 0.5 m away from the
sample, CONDUCT inspection; RECORD the appearance quality conditions
on each sheet which may affect use; USE the sheet which has the most
serious defects as the appearance quality of this set of samples.

6.5.2 Length measurement

From each sheet, MEASURE the three length values. The measurement
points are distributed at the locations 50 mm away from the edge AND along
the symmetry axis (see Figure 5). In the measurement, PLACE the sheet
levelly, and MAKE the steel tape be parallel with the sheet edge.

RECORD the three length values from each sheet; respectively CALCULATE
the deviation between the measured length AND the nominal length; USE the
maximum deviation of the five sheets as the length deviation of this set of
samples, accurate to 1 mm.

6.5.3 Width measurement

From each sheet, MEASURE the three width values. The measurement
points are distributed at the locations 30 mm away from the end AND along
the symmetry axis (see Figure 6). In the measurement, PLACE the sheet
levelly, and MAKE the steel tape be perpendicular to the sheet edge. If the
sheet edge is chamfered, then it shall measure the sheet back width.

RECORD the three width values from each sheet; respectively CALCULATE
the deviation between the measured width AND the nominal width; USE the
maximum deviation of the five sheets as the width deviation of this set of
samples, accurate to 1 mm.

USE the steel tape to measure the sheet’s two diagonal lengths; RECORD
the two diagonal length values of each sheet; CALCULATE the diagonal
length difference; USE the maximum diagonal length difference of the five
sheets as the diagonal length difference of this set of samples, accurate to 1
mm.

6.5.6 Measurement of wedge edge width

At the locations aside the edge AND 300 mm away from the sheet end,
MEASURE four values. Vertically PLACE the steel ruler on the sheet face;
MAKE it perpendicular to the sheet edge. MAKE the steel ruler’s end align
with the sheet edge. MEASURE the spacing between the sheet edge AND
the contact point of steel ruler and sheet face (see Figure 8).

RECORD the four measurement values from each sheet; CALCULATE the
mean value; USE the maximum deviated mean width value from the
specified wedge edge width’s middle value of the five sheets as the wedge
edge width of this set of samples, accurate to 1 mm.

6.5.7 Measurement of wedge edge depth

Along the edge side at the locations 300 mm away from the sheet ends;
MEASURE four values. PLACE the wedge edge depth tester on the sheet
face; when the tester measuring head is 10 mm away from the sheet edge,
READ out the data from the tester (see Figure 9).

RECORD the four measurement values from each sheet; CALCULATE the
mean value; USE the maximum deviated mean depth value from the
specified wedge edge depth’s middle value of the five sheets as the wedge
edge depth of this set of samples, accurate to 0.1 mm.

6.5.8 Measurement of surface density

USE 10 samples which are used for breaking load measurement as specified
in 6.4 to conduct the measurement of surface density. PLACE the samples
on the electronic scale for weighing. Based on its area, CALCULATE the
mean value of the two samples’ surface density of each sheet. USE the
maximum value of the mean values from the five sheets as the surface
density of this set of samples, accurate to 0.1 kg/m2.

6.5.9 Measurement of breaking load

USE the 10 samples which are subject to the measurement as specified in


6.5.8 to conduct breaking load measurement. PLACE the sample onto the
sheet bending tester’s seat. As for the longitudinal breaking load sample
(code Z), PLACE it with the face downwards; as for the transverse breaking
load sample (code H), PLACE it with the face upwards. The seat’s center
distance is 350 mm. At the center of the span, through loading roller, APPLY
load along the direction parallel with the lower seat, at the loading rate (4.2 ±
0.8) N/s, until the sample breaks. RECORD the maximum load of the sheet;
CALCULATE the mean value of the breaking load of the five sheets. USE the
mean value and the minimum value of the five sheets as the breaking load of
this set of samples, accurate to 1 N.

6.5.10 Hardness measurement

6.5.10.1 End hardness measurement

Laterally and vertically PLACE the sample which was subjected to treatment
as specified in 6.4; USE fixture to clamp it. Along the thickness centerline of
the sample, SET three measurement points in accordance Figure 10. USE
the pressure tester at the loading rate of (4.2 ± 0.8) N/s, through a steel
needle, to load onto the sample, until the steel needle insert into the sample
for 13 mm. RECORD the three maximum hardness values of each sample in
the test process; USE the mean value of the maximum hardness values of
the five samples as the end hardness of this set of samples, accurate to 1 N.

With respect to the sample which was subjected to the treatment as specified
in 6.4, longitudinally at a location 20 mm away from the end, SAW a gap; DO
not damage the covering paper of the other side (see Figure 13). As for the
sample which is subject to the measurement of the bond between the face
paper and the core material (code M), the sawing gap is located at the back
of the sample; As for the sample which is subject to the measurement of the
bond between the back paper and the core material (code D), the sawing gap
is located at the face of the sample. Then FIX the sample into the upper
fixture of the covering paper and core material bond performance tester (see
Figure 14). At the sample end bending along the sawing gap, SCREW the
lower fixture; gradually INCREASE load, until the covering paper strips.
RECORD the bond conditions between the face paper & back paper and the
core material of each sheet; USE the most serious condition of the five
sheets as the bond performance results of the covering paper and the core
material of this set of samples.

6.5.14 Measurement of surface water absorption amount

After the sample was subjected to the treatment as specified in 6.4, under the
laboratory test conditions as specified in 6.2, CONDUCT measurement;
MEASURE the surface water absorption amount of the sample face. USE the
electronic balance to weigh the sample mass (G3); then FIX the sample onto
the paper surface absorption weight gauge. Within the cylinder drum of the
paper surface absorption weight gauge, INJECT (25 ± 5) °C water into the
cylinder drum to the height of 25 mm. START time keeping when overturning
the cylinder drum; LET it standing for 2 h. After making the cylinder drum
positive, TAKE off sample; USE the neutral filter paper to absorb the water
attached to the sample surface. Then USE the electronic balance to weigh
the sample mass (G4), accurate to 0.01 g. RECORD the mass of each
sample before and after surface water absorption; USE the equation (2) to
calculate the surface water absorption amount. USE the maximum value of
the five samples as the surface water absorption amount of this set of
samples, accurate to 1 g/m2.

Where:

W2 – Surface water absorption amount, in the unit of gram per square


meter (g/m2);

G3 – Mass of the sample before surface water absorption, in the unit of


gram (g);

G4 – Mass of the sample after surface water absorption, in the unit of gram
(g);

S – Surface water absorption area, in the unit of square meter (m2).

6.5.15 Measurement of fire stability

As shown in Figure 15, DRILL holes on the sample and MAKE it subject to
the treatment as specified in 6.4. USE the support rod to hang the sample
perpendicularly in between the two flaming nozzles; MAKE the flaming
nozzle perpendicular to the sample surface. USE the liquefied petroleum gas
as the heat source, to supply gas to the two burners which are used for the
fire stability test; MAKE the distance from the burner flaming nozzle to the
sheet surface in 30 mm. In accordance with requirements of Table 6, HANG
load on the lower end of the sample (see Figure 16); LIGHT the burner. USE
two sets of nickel-chromium – nickel-silicon thermocouples to measure the
temperature at the locations 5 mm away from the sheet surface. At the
beginning of the test, it shall, under the conditions of avoiding sample from

d) After normal production, the product design, technology, and production


equipment, etc, are subject to substantial changes, which may affect the
product quality;

e) When the production of products is restored after stopping for over half
a year;

f) When the ex-factory inspection reveals great difference as compared


with the previous type test;

g) When the state quality supervision institute makes requirements for type
test.

7.3 Sampling

7.3.1 USE every 2500 pieces of same specification & model products as a
batch; if it is less than 2500 pieces, also CONSIDER them as a batch.

7.3.2 From each batch of products, randomly TAKE five sheets as a set of
samples.

7.4 Judgment rules

7.4.1 As for the judgment of the individual item test results, it shall follow the
round off value comparison method as specified in GB/T 1250.

7.4.2 With respect to such quality indicators of the sheet as appearance


quality, dimensional deviation, diagonal length difference, wedge edge
cross-sectional dimension, impact resistance, and bond performance of
covering paper and core material, if any one of the aforementioned indicators
is disqualified, this sheet is disqualified sheet. If in the five sheets, the
quantity of the disqualified sheet is more than one, this batch of product is
judged as disqualified batch.

7.4.3 With respect to such quality indicators of sheet as surface density,


breaking load, hardness, water absorption rate, surface water absorption
amount, and fire stability, all of the five sheets shall be qualified, otherwise
this batch of products will be judged as disqualified.

7.4.4 With respect to the batches which are judged as disqualified in


accordance with 7.4.2 and 7.4.3, it is allowed to re-take another two sets of
samples to conduct re-test for the disqualified items. The judgment rules for
the retest results are same as those in 7.4.2 and 7.4.3. If the two sets of
samples are qualified, then this batch of products are judged as qualified; if
there is still one set of samples are disqualified, then this batch of products
will be judged as disqualified.

Appendix B
(Normative)
Measurement of moisture deflection

B.1 Scope

This Appendix specifies the measurement method of the moisture deflection


of gypsum plasterboard.

This Appendix is applicable to measure the moisture deflection of all kinds of


gypsum plasterboard.

B.2 Sampling

USE five sheets as a set of samples; from each sheet at the locations over
100 mm away from the periphery, longitudinally CUT one 600 mm x 300 mm
sample, which is coded as N.

B.3 Sample preparation

PLACE the sample into the electric blast oven; at the temperature of (40 ±
2) °C, DRY the sample to constant weight (within 24 h, the sample mass
change is less than 5 g); under the laboratory test conditions of temperature
(25 ± 5) °C AND relative humidity of (50 ± 5) %, COOL it to room temperature;
then CONDUCT test.

B.4 Measurement of moisture deflection

After the sample was subjected to the treatment as specified in B.3, PLACE it
face downwards onto the seat of the test bracket; AND the seat center
distance is 580 mm. Then PLACE the test bracket into the moisture
deflection test chamber of the temperature (32 ± 2) °C AND relative humidity
of (90 ± 3) %; MAINTAIN it for 48 h; MEAUSRE and RECORD the sagging
deflection of the sample at the intersection point of the two diagonal lines
before AND after the test. CALCULATE the sheet’s deflection value after
moisture. USE the mean deflection value of the five sheets as the moisture
deflection of this set of samples, accurate to 1 mm.
