Materials Needed and Physical Classroom Prep:
- enough construction paper for 12 pairs of students
- a maze that I created
Procedure: Time:
Do Now/Hook:
- Ask students to complete the maze that I create/ find on the 5 min
internet, and that if they do they can have chocolate. They can
work together on it. The maze will be very difficult though and
they likely won’t be able to complete it in time. Then I’ll ask them
why they think the maze is so hard?

Direct Instruction/Modeling: 5 min


- Tell briefly the story of the Minotaur and the Labyrinth, and how
Theseus was eventually able to slay Minotaur by making it through
the maze with a red thread.

30 min
Student Practice/Application:
- Students will create their own maze on construction paper in pairs
with whatever they want at the center. They will then trace the
proper way through with a red marker.
2 min
Wrap up/Closure:
- Ask students why they think that the maze is difficult to complete
again. Ask them if they think this is a good way to keep something
valuable secure.

Clean Up 2 min
- Put away supplies
