Aim/Objective: Students will be able to . . .
Students will be able to learn about the Caribbean. They will explore the Dominican
Republic, Cuba, Puerto Rico and Jamaica. Student will have the opportunity to ask me
questions about my culture.
Key Vocabulary:
No Particular vocab. Will explain along the way.
Materials Needed and Physical Classroom Prep:
● Scissors
● Markers
● White paper
● Projector/ Computer (For short visual presentation)
● Music (Background)

Procedure: Time:
Do Now/Hook: 8min
● Buenos Dias/ Bonjour/ Good Morning Summerbridge students!
● Today we will be learning about the Carribean.
● Around the room there will be hidden words and pictures. (Food,
languages, type of music and dances, religion, location, flags and
capital cities names) Students are going to find them and try to figure
out where they belong. In the board there will be 4 names written and
they are gonna try their best to match all these component of cultures
to one of the countries.
● Oh wow! Awesome job guys.
● Now we will see if you got those descriptions correct.
● Do you wanna find out how you did? YESS!

Direct Instruction/Modeling:
● Then let's hop into out virtual road trip. 15min
● (Prepare the classroom)
● The virtual road trip activity is involves imagination, as they
will imagine they are on a bus for a trip. I will be the bus
driver and the tour master. It also involves a series of pictures
of the countries flags, location, language and most famous
tradition.(as we will soon get to explore more in depth some
of these countries) While the pictures (and names) are
presented in the powerpoint presentation I will giving fun
facts of each stop/ country.. Students will ask questions in
each stop if they would like to know something in particular.
● Wow so let's go back and look at your 1st responses. You
guys were really close to getting them all right.
● Now do you remember where is Paula from?
● Yes! That right I’m from Puerto Rico.

Student Practice/Application: 15min


● After finishing up our virtual road trip experience. Students will come
up with questions for me about my country and everything they

would want to know. (About 10 question per person)


● After they are done writing them down. We will have a Q&A session.
● This way they learn from a different view about other cultures.

Wrap up/Closure: 3min


● Alright, students we have learned about the Caribbean.
● Based on what you know would you like to visit these countries and
why?
● Was it fun and interesting?

Clean-Up
● Put all material away and prepare for the next class.
