Do Now/Hook: Institution hurter 10min

 Some pictures representing different political institutions will be


hidden in the classroom, and the students will be asked to look for
them.
 Students will be given time to hunt for the pictures that is hidden in
different parts of the classroom.
 Whoever find the picture will have to tell the class what they find.
 For example, a student would find himself a picture of the supreme
court in HK, which would represent the judiciary in HK, has to tell the 15min
class that he/she finds a picture of a court.
 Students will go around telling other what have they found.

Direct Instruction/Modeling:
 Using the pictures, begin introducing different political institutions,
which includes executive, legislative and judiciary.
 First off, write down the three big vocabularies on the board.
 Then have the students to read them out loud. 15min
 Just briefly explain the institution in the picture.
 The executive – being the part of government that, for example,
provide education, security, health care. Etc.
 The legislative- being the part of government that make new law.
 The judiciary – being the part of government that check if anyone is
breaking the law.
 The definition of each institution will be given in week two when
learning about the presidential system, but for now students will only
need a brief introduction to the idea.
 Most political regimes(or countries) , whether democratic(people get
to pick their own leader) or not, establish a number of political
institutions.
 They include “executive” “legislative” “judiciary”

 Introduce the meaning of “legislative-executive relations”


 How the two institutions interact will lead to various political system
in a country.
 If they work together, then it is what commonly called “parliamentary
system”
 If they do not work together and often go against each other, then it is
what commonly called “presidential system”

Wrap up/Closure:

 Sum up and go over again the ideas.


 REMIND THE STUDENTS TO LOOK UP THE MEANING FOR
CONSTITUTION.
