Picture of a hawk, paper for each student to create their own food pyramid, markers

Procedure: Time:
Do Now/Hook:
- Ask what rabbits are afraid of 5
- Talk about their different predators
- And then shown them a picture of a hawk
- Ask where the hawk would belong on the food pyramid

Direct Instruction/Modeling:
- Teach them about primary consumers (energy eater) and secondary 10
consumers (energy eater 2)
- Talk about energy transfer between all the different levels
- Talk about what their common diets consist of
- Have them think about creating their own food pyramid using real-
life examples and animals they may come across in their daily lives

Student Practice/Application: 25
- They will play a modified version of rock-paper-scissors evolution
- They will start off as plants, the winner will become a rabbit, and
the final winner will be an eagle
- In each stage they have to act like that living thing (plants will have
2 arms up like a sprout, rabbits will create bunny ears, and hawks
will have wings)
- After the first round, have some people start off as rabbits and them
some people return back to plants

Wrap up/Closure:
- Ask them what happens when more rabbits are added, what about 3
too little plants?
- Discus balance in the food pyramid, interdependence, and
sustainability
