TITLE: Is Global Climate Change Man Made.

Usually, people will pay attention on how weather changes over a week, a
month or even compared to a few year earlier. But now, there are changes that cannot
be seen and only can be observe by the scientists using the good equipment.
Something in the weather that has tendency to repeat every year is called climate.
Now scientist notice that there are major changes to climate around the world that will
exist, or already exist, bad consequences. Climate change is no longer some far-off
problem. It is happening here, it is happening now. There are a lot of studies being
carried out in regard to the issue of climate changes in the modern world because it
has become a major concern for us. Anjali Goel and Ranjana Bhatt (2012) stated that
the earth has seen an increase in temperature change and many scientist now believe
that there is a direct link between this warming and emissions of greenhouse gases
such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrogen oxides (NO2) caused by human activities.
Based on Collins English Dictionary, global warming is an increase in the average
temperature worldwide believed to be caused by the greenhouse effect. The United
Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) defines climate
change as a change of climate that is attributed directly or indirectly to human
activity, altering the composition of the global atmosphere. Climate change is the
result of global warming that majority cause by the human activities. The climate
change has caused a lot of changes that affect certain human activities, economies and
environments. This essay will based on the argument that climate change is as a result
of manmade activities.

Originally, climate change is influenced by natural changes that affect how

much solar energy reaches the Earth. The earth’s atmosphere has the capacity to
balance itself hence making it possible to argue that recent climate changes are one of
the example of natural causes. The intensity of the sunlight can warming or cooling
the Earth’s climate and atmosphere. Changes in Earth's orbit have bigly affected
atmosphere more than tens to a huge number of years. In fact, the amount of summer
daylight on the Northern Half of the world, which is influenced by changes in the
planet's orbit, appears to the advance and retreat of ice sheets. These progressions give
off an impression of being the essential driver of past cycles of ice ages, in which
Earth has encountered long period of cool temperatures (ice ages), and also shorter
interglacial (periods between ice ages) of moderately hotter temperatures. The result
of the global warming is the increased of the sea levels due to the melting of iceberg
from Artic and Atlantic poles. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
U.S. Department of Commerce stated that the two major causes of the global sea level
rise are thermal expansion caused by warming of the ocean and increased melting of
Artic and Atlantic poles such as glaciers and ice sheets. This happen because of the
lack of ability of the earth to reflect back energy that irradiance to the atmosphere and
trap in the Earth’s atmosphere. Thus, the increasing se level is due to the melting of
the ice berg on the North Pole from the climate change. Wiest, Raymond and Clawson
(2015) said that it is a way of the earth to balance its climate.

Other than that, the greenhouse effect causes the atmosphere to hold warm. A
greenhouse is worked of any material that passes daylight normally glass, or plastic.
The Sun warms the ground and substances inside simply like the outside, which at the
point warms the air. Outside, the warm air close to the surface ascents and blends with
cooler air overtop, keeping the temperature lower than inside, where the air keeps on
warming up in light of the fact that it is kept to the greenhouse. This can be exhibited
by opening a little window close to the top of a greenhouse: the temperature will drop
significantly. It was shown tentatively (R. W. Wood, 1909) that a (not warmed)
"greenhouse" with a cover of rock salt (which is straightforward to infrared) warms
up a walled in area likewise to one with a glass cover. Therefore greenhouses work
essentially by avoiding convective cooling. So, when sunlight reaches the Earth’s
surface, the sunshine can either be reflected back to the space or absorbed by the
Earth. When the energy is absorb, the planet release some portion of the energy back
to the atmosphere. United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) persuade
that once absorbed, the Earth release a portion of the energy back into atmosphere as
warmth. Dr Shahino Mah Abdullah (2017) stated that the Earth’s atmosphere contains
important greenhouse gases (GHGs), primarily as water vapour containing little
amount of carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O). Greenhouse
gases act as warm cover for the Earth influencing it to retain warm from the Sunlight
to keep the surface warm. Hence, greenhouse gases make the Earth hotter. This cycle
is called “The Greenhouse Effect”.

Climate change is a serious matter that must be treat quickly by the human being.
Nevertheless, it seems like the human itself is the main causes for this terrible disaster to
occur on the Earth. One of the biggest mistake that should not be done by the human is
deforestation. Deforestation is the second leading cause of global warming. It produces about
two of the global greenhouse gas emissions. What are greenhouse gases? Greenhouse gases
are gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect by absorbing infrared radiation. Carbon
dioxide and chlorofluorocarbons are examples of greenhouse gases. Earth Day Network
published, scientist say that deforestation in tropical forest adds more carbon dioxide to the
atmosphere that the sum total of all cars and trucks on the world’s road. Hence, making the
Earth warmer than usual in the first place. Every action must get repaid, so does
deforestation. Another effect of deforestation is the decreasing amount of rainfall at certain
area making the area droughts and dry. Droughts area makes the global temperature rises.
This continuity of deforestation can lead to another disaster on the Earth. Oleg V (2011)
present that the sudden changes in temperature such as the average rising in majority of the
season affects the amount of rainfall. Hence, the decreasing amount of rainfall affect certain
area. Usually, area with no to little Earth lit tree are more tendency on becoming droughts
than forest. For this case, it is important to know how the mother nature work and how the
ecosystem work in the will of god. Forest collect moisture on leaves, branches, trunks and
roots. Therefore, deforestation makes the evaporating of moisture occur rapidly, making the
area droughts. Soil cannot absorb moisture perfectly hence, trees cannot grow healthy and
stunted upon deforestation. Deforestation also made the soil lose for deforestation to take
place. Hence, climate change will keep on occurring since the soil cannot support the growth
of plantation. Therefore, this is proof that climate change is caused by human activities.

Today, more than 50% of the world’s population lives in urban area. Urban
development can be considered to be a good change for the human being but not for the
nature. Urban development is linked to climate change and its effect on climate change is
being studied. Urban development is defines as the social, cultural, economic and physical
development of cities, as well as the underlying causes of these processes. Development of
urban area and technologies also resulting on global warming. Urban areas are the major
sources of carbon dioxide emissions contributing to greenhouse gas. Then, forcing the
climate change happen on the Earth. Human activities have continued to increase CO2
concentrations thus, heating up the Earth’s atmosphere. And one of those activities are urban
development. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, CO2
emissions mainly originate from electricity production (25 percent), industry (21 percent),
transportation (14 percent), commercial and residential buildings (6 percent), sum of
agricultural activities, land use and forestry (24 percent), and other energy uses (10 percent).
With the increasing number of developments, activities that omit carbon dioxide also start to
increase hence, the temperature of the Earth start to rise and causing the climate change. Dr
Shahino Mah Abdullah (2017) stated that most carbon dioxide emissions are from burning
fossil fuels that comes from electricity production, industry, transportation, and commercial
and residential buildings, which together make up to 66 percent of global carbon dioxide
emissions. Other gases contributions are including methane that being released from landfills
and agriculture (from the digestive system of grazing animals), nitrous oxide from fertilizers,
gases used from refrigerators and industrial processes, and the loss of forests that stored
carbon dioxide gases. Other gases such as chlorofluorocarbons or also known as CFCs have
heat trapping ability hundreds of times greater than carbon dioxide. The other gases have
lower concentration than carbon dioxide, thus none of these gases adds significant warmth to
the atmosphere as much as carbon dioxide does. As a result, this lead to global warming and
hence climate change.

From the above arguments, it is clear that human activities is the major causes of
climate change out do the natural causes. Thousands of scientists in more than a hundred
nations have amassed an overwhelming amount of evidence pointing to a clear conclusion
that human activities are the main cause of global warming. It is because, we are the ones
who cut down trees, burn fossil fuels, urbanisation activities that absorb carbon dioxide thus,
sending heat trapping gases to be released to the Earth’s atmosphere. Human should control
these exaggerating activities to avoid making the Earth a place that is unbearable to live in.
Research proves that human activities are the main causes of climate change. There are not
enough evidence to pull out that natural phenomenon causes climate change. Natural causes
of climate change are not enough to bring a notable climate change towards the Earth. Some
actions need to be made to help the Earth retrieve from climate change. Human should
educate now and future generations on how to overcome this problem and searching for other
alternate ways in controlling their activities. Aliya Haq, deputy director of NRDC’s Clean
Power Plan initiative says, “Change only happens when individuals take action”. Together,
we can avoid and prevent climate change to keep occurring by doing these simple steps. The
first step is by voicing your concerns through social media like facebook, Instagram or
youtube that warn people about the negative impact of climate change. Secondly, always use
public transport to reduce the apparent of carbon dioxide. Car-pooling with your colleague
can reduce the emission of carbon dioxide. Thirdly, change to energy-efficient appliances.
Aliya Haq stated that energy efficiency is the lowest-cost way to reduce emissions. When
shopping on new electrical appliances, search for label that write ‘energy star’ label. Those
label will help you to determine which electrical appliances help in managing energy
efficiency. Last but not least, power your house with renewable energy like solar, wind or
turbine energy. You can generate electricity by placing solar panel to generate the sunlight
and turns into electricity. The installation cost might be high but the benefit that you can get
when install these solar panel might be worth the price.
