An Idealistic President of the Philippines

Bertrand Russel once quoted that “A world full of human happiness is not beyond
human power to achieve.” I want a government which is idealistic in nature. If I will
become the next president of the Philippines, my advocacy will focus on making this
world an ideal world, an arena where nations can work hand-in-hand in eliminating war,
discrimination, inequality, despotism, violence and force. There are many social issues
that should be given emphasis including poverty, human rights and general welfare.

On a recent report released by PSA, the subsistence incidence among Filipino

families, or the proportion of Filipino families experiencing extreme poverty was
estimated at 9.2 percent during the first semester of 2015. PSA also releases its other-
poverty related statistics on income gap, poverty gap and severity of poverty. It was
shown that in the first semester of 2015, incomes of poor families were short by 29.0
percent of poverty threshold. This only means that on average, an additional monthly
income of Php 2,649 is needed by a poor family with five members in order to move out
of poverty in the first semester of 2015. It really saddened me that the people behind
those numbers are struggling in life to provide their everyday necessities and trying all
means just to survive. As an idealist leader, to eradicate poverty will be one of my
desired goals. In order to do this, it is necessary to understand first the roots why people
struggle to have good life, good food and good education. . Children are the most
vulnerable when it comes to poverty. In order to help them and give them the ideal
world they deserve, it will be my responsibility to use international relations and work
with other international communities in eliminating such deficiencies to suffice their
needs and to promote general welfare. It is also important to determine which part of
governance or policies are needed to be reformed. I believe that politics is the art of
good government, if I want to eliminate or change bad behavior practices of man in my
country; I better start reforming the country’s policies first.

As an idealist president, I will preserve human rights through joint efforts with the
local government and the international communities because I believe that the nation
could not stand alone totally, it needs help especially if it’s about the commitment on
preserving international law and order. Human rights is a controversial topic nowadays
especially because of this war on drugs operations. There are instances when drug
users who resist an arrest are killed on the spot resulting for the human rights activists
to speak up against this because of the reason that life is sacred and it is our right, to
live. However, in idealism, what is good is ideal. The main problem here are the
persons who are doing the operation, if they are true to their commitment on ending
crimes or they just doing it for the sake of doing it and because of directives. In order to
preserve human rights, I believe that the law provides an answer to this. I want equality
for everyone under the law. I want justice for everyone. I want to give them due process
of law. I do not care about social classes or status in life because what’s more important
to me is the idea of fairness. An idealist leader strongly opposes to the view that politics
is a struggle for power. I want to be the advocate of change.

It was easy to say that as the next president of the Philippines, I will promote
general welfare but then the responsibility and the approach I will be using to come up
with the result I want is really difficult. I chose Idealistic approach since it suits me and
my advocacies in life. I will use reason and education in order to reach my goal and in
order to promote the common good. Through this approach, I believe that I could turn
our country into a better place where corruption is not being tolerated, where crime
rates decreases, all because of good governance.

One idealist influencer whom I look up to is Mahatma Gandhi. He is famous for

his quote which says “Be the change you want to see in the world”. He is right that in
order for things to get things done, one must initiate change. I believe that the best
weapon for eradicating poverty, preserving human rights and promoting general welfare
starts with education. Education will be my advocacy as well because if we will analyze
it carefully, lack of good education is one of the reasons why people are experiencing
poverty. Nowadays, employers are looking for people who have good education
background. I am not saying that those people who do not study are not going to
overcome poverty but in order to have a good fight in this arena, one must gain good
education as it will be much easier for them to find job and provide their needs.
Education may also be used in promotion of general welfare and preservation of human
rights. It may provide learners knowledge and understanding on how significant it is to
respect human and their rights. One of the goals that an idealist follows is the idea
where people get the respect they deserve both local and international. It would be
better if people will collaborate in order to end crimes. If there are operations existing
like this war on drugs which we know has good intention of resolving the increasing
number of people using drugs still it would be best to reform the institutions first and put
things in order.

Furthermore, as an idealist I believe in the general idea of evolutionary progress

in our society. To do this is to improve the course of our international relations. Human
welfare and advancement of our civilization are my concerns. Elimination of evil factors
which hinders the growth and development of our country must be put into
consideration because everyone deserves a world where there is justice, equality, and
democracy.
