Subject: Firearm Safety Kits: The Push to Keep our Communities Safe
Alamance County, NC/March 31, 2019 – Project ChildSafe is distributing free firearm safety kits
primarily through police departments to help make communities safer by preventing theft,
misuse, and accidents. The kits include a gun-locking device and an informational brochure on
safe handling and storage guidelines.
“Some people feel that keeping a gun at home will protect their family from an intruder.
Unfortunately, a gun in the house is much more likely to hurt or kill a member of the household
or a friend than an intruder.” Kidshealth.org states.
The U.S. leads the world in child gun deaths, yet those can be lowered by taking the proper
precautions. In the past 20 years, more than 38 Millions firearm safety kits have been distributed
through Project ChildSafe, reducing unintentional firearm deaths by 38% between 2005-2015.
Project ChildSafe takes tax-deductible donations to help continue their initiative as developed by
the National Shooting Sports Foundation. Get a safety kit through a distribution partner in your
state.
Kelly Ransdell, Public Education Specialist with the National Fire Protection Association claims,
“Limiting gun access can become part of our culture without getting into the tense conversations
that can occur around this issue” to North Carolina Health News.
