Writing A Report That Compares Two Works of Fiction

Directions Select two works of fiction to compare. They should have a key feature in
common, such as the same author or the same basic subject You might pick two examples of
the same type of fiction, such as science fiction or fantasy. As you read, take notes on the
ways the books are alike and how they are different. You may want to copy the following
chart onto another sheet of paper so you have more space to fill in the boxes.

Directions Answer the following questions. Continue your answers on another sheet of paper
if you have to. Make sure you use specific examples from the books to support your
conclusions. Use the chart above to help organize your ideas, but don't limit your answers to
the features listed on the chart. You might also want to compare the book’s styles (formal ?
Informal ?) or instructures (who tells the story? Do the events want to compare the books'
styles or jump backward or forward in time?)

1. What are the main similarities between the two books ?

The Great Gatsby and The Notebook’s novel share a common theme that the love
they have for their partner is never ending, they both deal with stories of fighting for
love. Also they are the same because they both deal with money and show what
difference money can make in relationships. People’s opinions and two cents can
really affect a relationship and possibly end it which was seen in both The Notebook
and The Great Gatsby
2. What are the main difference ?
Allie and Noah’s relationship in The Notebook was filled with pure love but the
differences in their money classes played an important role. They both didn’t care
about the money but everyone did. In the Great Gatsby money is the whole story. The
novel shows that just because two people have money doesn’t mean they will be
happy.

3. Compare your personal response to the two books. Which did you like better and why
?

I think The Great Gatsby and The Notebook are really good and both stories are
touching. Money and opinions can make or break relationships. Both Novel can be
summed up in quotes. “Money can’t buy happiness” as shown in The Great Gatsby
and “love conquers all” is shown in The Notebook. But for me, i favor The Great
Gatsby the moat because it has a more exciting storyline and also has more strong
characters.
