Work Experience
“Study of Access Resistance Effects on High Frequency Performance of GaN HEMTs by low temperature measurements”
Summer Project (2005) under the guidance of Prof. Umesh Mishra, ECE Department, University of California at Santa Barbara
The access resistances are deterrents to high frequency performance of AlGaN/GaN HEMTs. Their effects were studied by
measurements at low temperature where parasitics can be decreased to very low values. Intrinsic properties of the device like
intrinsic delay, average velocity and drain delay remain unchanged while channel charging delay decreased as access resistances
decrease. As expected, at lower temperatures, when the access resistances are very low, fT, fMAX & saturation current were observed
to increase significantly. Pulsed s-parameter measurement setup which was devised during the internship eliminated device heating.
ADS was used to simulate device characteristics and model the capacitances in AlGaN/GaN HEMTs with field-plated gates.
“Modeling of Low Voltage I-V characteristics of Single and Multiple Layer OLEDs” (July’05-May’06)
B.Tech. Project under the guidance of Dr. Baquer Mazhari, Associate Professor, Electrical Engineering, IIT Kanpur
OLEDs are studied and their characteristics are simulated on Atlas, Athena, DevEdit and MOLED. DC simulations are used to
explain and give a closed form expression for the ohmic behavior of OLEDs at low voltages as compared to the square dependence
expected by space charge limited current theory. The simulated characteristics will be confirmed by experiments. Further extension
of the project is expected to study one particular aspect of the OLEDs.
“Digital Kathputli (Puppetry): Automated Puppet Control synchronized to music” (July’03- May’04)
Under the guidance of Dr. Amitabha Mukerjee, Head, Center of Mechatronics, IIT Kanpur
Credit– Selected among 25 finalists in ‘Endeavor- The Functional Model Contest’, Techkriti 2004, IIT Kanpur
– The business plan for selling the commercial product of Digital Kathputli called ‘Techputli’ was selected among the 12
finalists in Megabucks 2004 at IIT Kanpur- We were the youngest team, comprising of 2nd yearites only.
Digital Kathputli is an innovation to interface programming with script enacting. The concept uses automated puppets, using DC
servo motors, controlled through PWM using H-bridges. A Java GUI used as the story writing software takes inputs in the form of
“Move Hand” etc. to program the motion of puppets. The parallel port of the PC is used to communicate with the motors and run
them accordingly to get a puppet dance. This puppet kit is used as a tool to learn programming using story telling, in schools. Also,
by application of neural network, the puppets can dance synchronized to any music.
Designed a chip to be used by students all over the world to perform MOS experiments related to design of OpAmps. The selection
of the transistor set used to make OpAmp circuit modules is based on considerations like size, current carrying capacity, etc. By
applying high or low voltage on some pins, one can connect the modules to obtain an OpAmp which meets the desired specifications
of differential mode gain, 3dB cutoff frequency, unity crossover frequency, slew rate etc.
The project involves design and implementation of an autonomous wheelchair, to be used by locked-in patients, and spastic patients
etc for safe navigation. The wheelchair is motor-driven and gets signals form the eye blinks of the patient. The eye-blink signals are
used to select controls on a Visual Basic generated Display Panel and thus converted to forward, backward, right turn, left turn and
stop commands. Other value-adding features include SONAR based anti-collision system, rear view, text-to-speech interface,
universal remote control etc.
The project involves extraction of various parameters of a Differential Amplifier and plotting its transfer characteristics for different
values of IEE (current source current). Suitable measurements are performed so as to obtain AD and AC for a certain value of IEE and
estimate the CMRR. Other characteristics like the unity gain cutoff frequency, output resistance, slew rate etc. will also be measured
automatically using a LabView program. ELVIS will be used as the hardware for this project.
Programmed a Zilog Z8Encore MCU for A-to-D conversion, UART communication, IR communication and memory interfacing.
Programmed a 8051 microcontroller (using SDCC) to monitor the frequency of the voltage waveform. Designed a circuit to play the
Galaga game on the CRO Screen for the Electronic Circuit Design Contest in Techkriti 2004, IIT Kanpur. In the game, a space ship
(player) had to shoot randomly appearing enemies originating from the opposite end and moving towards it. The circuit was among
the best 10 circuits selected for the final round.
Micromouse is an electromechanical setup which is programmed to solve any given maze. An indigenous algorithm for maze-solving
was developed by us. Its motion was programmed using a PIC16F877 microcontroller getting feedback from Shaft Encoders (to
calculate the distance traveled) and Infrared Sensors (to detect the presence of the walls of the maze).
Wall Hugging Mobile Platform Construction kit is an electromechanical construction kit developed at the Centre for Mechatronics,
IIT Kanpur. It’s a step to develop low cost ‘Build it yourself’ construction kits for Indian market. This includes a mechanical
controller circuit for the small mobile platform with an outstretching arm to track the wall.
