Read the following passage and select the correct answer. (Q.
21–25)
We often visit library to collect information, sources, resources and
services. A private library is a library under the care of private
ownership, as compared to that of public institution and is usually
only established for the use of small number of people or even a
single person. As with public libraries some people use stamps,
stickers, or embossing to show ownership of the items. Some
people sell their private libraries to establish institutions such as
there to the Library of congress, or as is often the case, decorated
them after death, through a will. Libraries are organised for the use
and maintenaned by a public body, an institution or private
individuals. The first public library in Greece was established in
330 B.C., in order to preserve accurate examples of the work of the
great dramatists. The most famous libraries of antiquity were those
of Alexandria, founded by Ptolemy I, which contained some
700,000 Greek scrolls. The library at Pergamum, founded or
expanded by Eumenes II, rivaled those at Alexandria.
If I go into any scholar’s library, I wander around the bookshelves
to learn what sort of person she/he is then s/he comes in I feel that I
know the key to her/his mind and the range of his/her interest. A
house without books is a characterless house, no matter how rich
the person is. These only tell you whether he has a lot of money,
but these books tell you whether he has got a mind as well. It is not
a question of money that we do not buy books. I repeat that these
books are the cheapest as well as the best part of the equipment of
the few dollars. Nearly all the best literature of the world is at
yours common at two dollars a volume.
