Essay 16 – Good role models

Nowadays it is so common that children have a favorite famous person to follow and admire,
however the more common role model, who are professional sports people, are not a good
example for them. Therefore, some people think that those athletes should have a life based on
principles and values and I strongly support this idea for the two following reasons which would be
described in this writing.

First, it is well known that a kid learns by the example and tends to imitate what they see, so if
they watch in news that the soccer player they idolized is in a problematic situation, they will
relate this attitude with something to incorporate in their lives. For example, children that
admiring a player who is discipline in their training sessions, plays with sportsmanship or do
charitable actions would be the best person to mimic but, if the same athlete is always in parties
under the effect of alcohol and has a lack of professionalism in their games they will influence in
negative ways to childhood. Clearly sportsmen should think the role the play not only in their
game, but also in the society.

Second, the more people follows famous athletes, the better will be their careers because in a
globalized world their income come from diverse activities like advertising or own businesses
related to their image. Parents and people in general would be more excited to attend a game, to
buy a product or to support a company if the players linked with them are good role model in all
situations. In addition, there is a proverb about doing good thing to have a good future and it
could be translated in more success, fame and money. Undoubtedly, there are benefits for both
famous and players and their followers.

To sum up, the facts of being a person who have the chance of influencing children and the
opportunity to promote their careers and success are the main arguments I have to believe that
there is a duty the exemplifier behavior from them. All bad examples for children would have done
things in different ways if they had read this essay.
