LAB 1: CATALOG WINDOW

Objective: students will study the use of Catalog Window within ArcMap. In addition, students will
use the ArcToolbox geoprocessing tool to perform buffering zone analysis.

OBJEKTIVES

1. Identify Main Modules in ESRI's ArcGIS Software


2. Understanding Displaying data, searching data, and publishing data
3. Understand the Navigating the ArcGIS help files function

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Start the ArcCatalog Application.


2. Click at the Connect to Folder button
3. Navigate and select ArcGIS_Class folder.
4. Click OK.
5. You will see ArcGIS_Class folder appear at Folder Connections in Catalog Tree.

6. Start the ArcMap application by clicking button at toolbar ArcCatalog.


7. Dialog ArcMap – Getting Started will be shown. Click Cancel button because you will start
with a new document.

8. On the Standard Toolbar ArcMap, Click button Catalog Window .


9. Catalog Window will be shown. Observe the Folder Connections in Catalog Window
It is same as the folder inside the Catalog Tree at the ArcCatalog application like before. Click
at the ArcGIS_Class folder

10. Click button Show Next View


11. What has happened in Catalog Window_ ________________________________?
12. Inside ArcGIS_Class folder, Click geodatabase TNB.
13. Under the Catalog Tree section, Click Lot and at the same time press keyboard Ctrl then
Click/Select Pylon_Size and Transmission.
14. Drag those three layer into the Data View ArcMap display.
15. At the Table Of Contents section, Click/Select line symbol for layer Transmission.
16. Dialog Symbol Selector shown. At the Color Section:, Select Red symbol.

17. At Width section: type 1.50. Repeat the same step for Width 2.00, 2.50 and 3.00 any changes
to the Width _________
18. Click OK.
19. At Catalog Window, Click Toolboxes > System Toolboxes. You will see few toolbox were
listed.
20. Click to the toolbox Analysis Tools > Proximity and ‘double-click’ tool Buffer.
21. Dialog Buffer will be shown. In Input Features section, select Transmission.
22. At the Output Feature Class section, Name your data zone as Zon_100m and save under
folder geodatabase TNB.
23. In Linear unit section, type 100 and before that you have to make sure that the unit is in
Meters.
24. At Dissolve Type section, select ALL.
25. Click OK.
26. You will find that data polygon zone will be generated in the map display.
27. By repeating step 22-25, change your data zon to Zon_200m and Zon_300m, then save
under geodatabase TNB. What happen to the data polygon zon?
