responsibility on all sides. Although heavy penalty has already been arranged under
government regulation, many people still drop broken bottles or empty cans to public
places, like parks or streets, even in the river. It’s always interesting to know how the
youth are concerned about social problems like littering. First on the line is Sarah. Hello,
thank you for being part of our program. Please tell us what do you think of this bad
habit?
Sarah: I am against this bad habit 100%. I personally believe that throwing litter on the ground is
a very bad habit. Everybody knows that. Unfortunately, many people do it. I think that
because they don’t care about a clean and healthy environment. I would say that these
kinds of people are really selfish. I mean, don’t they realize the effect of throwing litter
carelessly.

Ketut: Okay Sarah, hold on one second. Now the question is: ‘What is your suggestion or advice
for these people?’

Sarah: Well, honestly, I don’t have anything to say to such people who don’t aware about the
environment. Maybe we should just let them do whatever they want but when there are
disasters, like floods or disease, don’t help them!

carelessly is that our environment will get dirty and the air will full of bad odors. Really, it
isn’t good at all.

Tuti: It’s so simple, Ketut. I believe that we can start it from our homes and slowly but surely

ADA: In my opinion, it is. But the mug is more expensive than that made in China.

ADA: Okay, here you are. The second person is a customer named DoeDoe. It was posted
on 15th December at 12: 08 p.m. She said that she had noticed more and more sofa
or lounge chair being replaced with hard wooden chairs which feel like a slab of
concrete. She thought that these chairs were totally not friendly eco-care. Moreover,
who wants to sit on a slab of concrete? She recommended that Ladybug café should
replace hard wooden chair with the cushioned ones.

ADA: Okay, noted down. Wooden chairs are replaced with cushion chairs. Next.

HOLY: Ah, this one is an interesting idea from a customer with a pseudonym SunTzu. It was
posted on 15th December at 7:37 p.m. It is said in his posting that he likes the way the
waiter and the waitress serving the order and their good manner toward the
customers, but he think it would be better and cool to have the waiters’ or the
waitress’ names embroidered on their aprons. It would give professional look
without the sometimes tacky name tags that most businesses wear.

HOLY: That’s a wonderful idea. I think the customers don’t want to call : hey waiter, hey
waitress. It would be better if he says : Thank you, Holy. Have a nice day, Ada.

ADA: Yeah, I think so. It looks more personal, doesn’t it? Okay, what’s next?

HOLY: Wow, this is the best posting I’ve ever seen. Posted on 20 th December at 11:01 a.m.
by Jeff Harison, Listen, I find that advertising any food product, no matter how
tasteful it is, inside of any washroom, bathroom or toilet is a bad taste. Ladybug has
many issues from SOCIAL to ENVIRONMENTAL that are well-suited to this type of
advertisement placement. In my opinion, advertising food (of any kind) in a
washroom, bathroom, toilet is not appropriate.

ADA: Hey, who did this? Yeah, I think it is disgusting. We should remind the advertising
agent in town.

HOLY: It’s really awkward! Well……this is the last posting we’ve got today from Angela
Paquin on 23rd December at 4:38 p.m. Angela recommends that Ladybug café should
install baby changing stations in the rest room, so that babies don’t have to lay on
the floor.

ADA: Alright, everything is on my report. You’d better type it and show it to the general
manager and let’s see what will be done with all those suggestions.

HOLY: I think they should take these suggestions into consideration to satisfy Ladybug
customers.

paper? Don’t you realize that students have destroyed many trees to make their
dream come true? By the way have you ever known about wood chipping? Well,
let me tell you. Wood chipping is a process used to obtain pulp and paper
products from forest trees.

First of all, the tops and branches of the trees are cut out and then the
logs are taken to the mill. At the mill the bark of the logs is removed and the logs
are taken to a chipper which cuts them into small pieces called woodchips. The
wood chips are then screened to remove dirt and other impurities. At this stage
they are either exported in this form or changed into the pulp by chemicals and
heat. The pulp is then bleached and the water content is removed. Finally the
pulp is rolled out to make paper.

people call them “bunnies”.

3) Well, it is a sort of tree that grows in warm climates. This tree has no branches but it has a
mass of large wide leaves at the top. Oil is obtained from its fruits. It is very tall. People have to
climb high this tree to get its fruits.

4) Guess what it is. It is a two-pair- winged insect. People hate this insect very much because it
carries diseases such as malaria and dengue fever. When the female bites, it sucks human
blood.

5) This flower is called “The Queen of Flowers”. It has various colors. It smells sweet. Therefore
people use its essence as fragrance. A man commonly gives this kind of flower to a woman
while saying “I Love You”.

and their trunk is long, allowing them to twist and extend to nearby branches. The hands and

Well, rafflesia arnoldii is a member of the genus Rafflesia. It is noted for producing the

Sumatra. Although there are some plants with larger flowering organs like the titan arum

divided into three parts. The umbra, within which the Moon completely covers the Sun. The

only partially in front of the Sun.

Book Review 1

Man : This book will transform your world view. Dr. Masaru Emoto’s first book, The Hidden Message in
Water, told about his discovery that crystals formed in frozen water revealed changes when
specific, concentrated thoughts were directed toward them. He also found that water from clear
springs and water that has been exposed to loving words showed brilliant, complex and colorful
snowflake patterns. In contrast, polluted water, or water exposed to negative though formed
incomplete, asymmetrical patterns with dull colors. The implications of this research creates a
new awareness of how we can positively impact the Earth and our own personal world. This book
takes you further and deeper into how you can affect your own personal healing by reading it.

Man : Alison Uttley is probably best known for her Little Grey Rabbit books written for children.
However, during her very successful career she wrote about 120 books on various subjects for
children and adults. Her varied interests in dreams, time travel and country matters provided
material for her writings, often revealing a woman of both sensitivity and perception. Her books
remain very collectable, especially the ‘Little Grey Rabbit’ titles and also the many books
illustrated by Tunnicliffe. However, all her work including her many essays, are both enjoyable
reading and a desirable addition to any book collectors’ shelves.

Man : It is said that in 2003 and 2004 one out of eleven adults in North America followed the Atkins
diet. Pasta and Rice sales declined sharply. Then this diet started to lose popularity and it became
quite controversial. My suggestion as a non-medical person is that you consult with your doctor
before undertaking this or any other diet. So what is this Atkins Diet that has proven to be so
popular? According to Atkins refined carbohydrates, in particular sugar and flour, are the main
cause of obesity. He also felt that saturated fat was not a major nutritional problem, and was
much less a factor in developing vascular disease than the trans fats often found in hydrogenated
oils.

Man : The Yale University Press has done a very pretty job with Venice from the Water. This is much
the prettiest of all the Venice-books published this century. When a reader opens the first page,
he will discover Venice’s riches with its unique historical details. Savoy also demonstrates through
a convincing knowledge of the city’s building codes over the centuries.
