Lesson 3: The Lordship of Jesus

Teacher’s Manual

WEEK 3

Welcome/Icebreaker
QUESTIONS: (Everybody must answer.)
How many brothers and sisters do you have?
Where did you live between the ages of 7 and 12?
Who is the person you feel closest to?

LESSON 3
THE LORDSHIP OF JESUS

Objective: To encourage the new believer to submit to the Lordship of Jesus.

According to the Bible all men have sinned (Romans 3:10, 23), because man is a sinner Satan
exercises authority over man’s lives (John 8:34).
 Satan is an evil and a wicked master, he ruins and destroys the lives of men (John 10:10).

Romans 3:23 (NKJV) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
23

John 8:34 (NKJV) Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a
34

slave of sin.
John 10:10 (NKJV) The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have
10

come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

WHY DO WE NEED TO MAKE JESUS AS THE LORD OF OUR LIVES?

1. GOD CREATED AND REDEEMED US TO BE HIS OWN

A. God created man for His pleasure God did not create us to live in sin and slavery to Satan. He did
not create us to live in futility. He created us for His pleasure (Revelation 4:11).

Revelation 4:11 (NKJV)

“You are worthy, O Lord,
11  [a]

To receive glory and honor and power;

For You created all things,
And by Your will they exist and were created.”
[b]

B. God created man for His purpose Our life is not our own, but His and He has the right to
determine the purpose of our living (Ephesians 2:10).

Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV) For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,
10

which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

C. God created man to spend eternity with Him Heaven is God’s destiny for us. Let us live for
Him and spend eternity with Him (Psalm 23:6).

Psalm 23:6 (NKJV)

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me

All the days of my life;

And I will dwell in the house of the LORD
[a]

Forever.
[b]

D. God paid for man on the Cross God sent His Son Jesus, to die on the cross and rose again
from the dead to atone (pay) for our sins. Because He paid for us with His life, we are now His
possessions. We belong to Jesus. He has the right and authority to rule over us (2 Cor.5:15).
Jesus has the legal right to be Owner and Lord of our lives because we belonged to Him twice.
(Illustration: Boy who lost a beautifully crafted boat story).

2 Corinthians 5:15 (NKJV) 15 and He died for all, that those who live should live no
longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.

2. THE ONLY WAY TO BE FREE FROM SATAN AND SIN IS TO MAKE JESUS OUR
LORD

The Bible says that Jesus has become our redemption (1 Corinthians 1:30). This means that by
His death, the price of our salvation had been fully paid. The chains of sin in us have been
broken and we were freed from Satan’s grip. By making Jesus Lord of our lives, we can break
free from the slavery of Satan and live a life pleasing to God. To be completely free from
Satan’s grip, we have to let Jesus rule every area of our lives.

(Illustration: Jesus must be the Lord of every area of our lives not just a guest in our house
(life) but the owner/king of every room - all areas) “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.

1 Corinthians 1:30 (NKJV) But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from
30

God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption—

Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery (Gal.5:1).”
Submit to His Lordship!

Galatians 5:1 (NKJV) Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do
[a]

not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

3. ALL THE BLESSINGS WE NEED IN LIFE FLOW FROM JESUS BEING LORD OF
OUR LIVES
Many so-called “Christians” have difficulty walking with Jesus because they never truly received
Him as Lord. Jesus never became the LORD or OWNER of their lives. They simply wanted
Jesus to save them from their problems. The only way to live a victorious Christian life is to
make Jesus Lord of our lives because ALL the blessings we receive come as a result of Jesus
being LORD of our lives (Read Ps.103:1-5). The passage clearly show that all blessings we
receive flow from the fact that Jesus is LORD of our lives. The Bible says, “Seek first the
kingdom (or kingship) of God and His righteousness and all these things (what you need)
shall be added to you (Matt.6:33).”

“Seek first the kingdom of God” refers to the Lordship of Jesus in our lives because Jesus is King
of the Kingdom of God.

Psalm 103:1-5 (NKJV)

 Bless the LORD, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!

Bless the LORD, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:

Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases,

Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,

Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Activation: Sing “He is Lord” and lead them to a prayer of commitment of every area of their lives
to Christ’s lordship.

Group Discussion:

1. Can you truly say that Jesus is now Lord of your life?
2. In what areas of your life do you still need to make Jesus Lord?
3. Why do we need to make Jesus as Lord of our life?

Action:
Surrender your life completely to Jesus

Memory Verse: 2 Corinthians 5:15 (NKJV)

15 And He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for
Him who died for them and rose again.
