According to the attribution theory Shahriars initial behaviour is external behaviour. The attribution
theory consists of three steps.

1. Distinctiveness: Before entering the university Shahriar was a friend-oriented person and
prefered new experience over good grades. After entering university Shahariar got to face many
new experiences which appealed to him and was also able to maintain his good grades. Since
his initial university’s actions (Getting good grades) were different from his previous actions (not
obtaining good grades. So his initial distinctiveness was High.
2. Consensus: In the first paragraph it is stated Shahriar was able to get good grades and so was his
friends. Since everyone were doing the same good result just like Shahriar so his consensus was
High.
3. Consistency: In the end of the first paragraph it is stated that Shahriar was not able to maintain
his good-grades for much long which shows that his consistency of maintaining good grades was
low.
A person with high Distinctiveness, high Consensus and low Consistency has an external
behaviour according to the Attribution Theory. So Shahriars initial behaviour was
externally caused.

Ans 2:
1. Distinctiveness: After some semesters Shahriar went back to his regular life routine. His
grades started to fall and he started to spend more time with friends and less time on study
just like he used to do before. Since there was not much difference between his activities
after his change in behaviour and his previous behaviour before joining the university so his
distinctiveness is low.
2. Consensus: In the second paragraph it is stated after Shahriars change in behaviour he was
not able to maintain his good grades and balance it with hissocial life where ass most of the
other students were able to balance their studies and social life. Since after his change in
behaviour, Shahriars activities were different from those of the other student in the
university so Shahriars consensus was low.
3. Consistency: In the last paragraph it is stated that Shahriar was continuously getting poor
grades which means his consistency of scoring poor grades was high.

A person with low Distinctiveness, low Consensus and high Consistency has an internal
behaviour according to the Attribution Theory. So Shahriars change in behaviour was
internally caused.
