Module 4: Classifying Matter Based on Its Ability to Be Bent, Pressed, Hammered, or Cut
Hello Grade 4! It’s nice to see you again!
This week we are going to tackle a lesson which is a continuation of the week 3
lesson. This week it is all about classifying matter based on its ability to be bent, pressed,
hammered, or cut. Does it sound familiar to you?
Of course, these are all biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials.
I hope that you are all prepared for this week’s lesson.

Enjoy while learning Kids!

Below are the learning targets for this week's lesson.

At the end of this lesson you are expected to:

 Identify the characteristics of materials commonly used at homes that can
be bent, pressed, hammered or cut.
 Classify materials based on their ability to be bent, pressed, hammered, or
cut.
 Explains and applies the importance of materials that can be bent,
pressed, hammered, or cut

Please copy these learning targets in your science notebook for your reference in
making your "I CAN" statement.

After copying, you can now write/type your "I can" statements on the space
provided below.

Evidence of Learning:
 Formative Assessments
 Summative Assessments

Materials:
 Learning materials can be accessed thru Canvas, e-mail and other means to
make them available to all of you.

Learner Support

me at roland.dalloran@jru.edu leave a chat in the chat box of the canvas or
you can message thru messenger.
 Please copy these learning objectives in your notebook as your reference in
making your "I can" statement. After copying, you can now write your "I can"
statement in the space provided below.

Did you know?

The properties that need to be considered by designers when

specifying steel construction products are:

 Strength
 Toughness
 Ductility
 Weldability
 Durability

Bent- sharply curved or having an angle.

Cut- to slit into pieces
Hammered- hit or beat (something) with a hammer or similar object.
Pressed- flattened, shaped, or smoothed by the application of pressure,
typically from an iron.

Do you have any questions about the topic so far? Let me help you!

You are now in the lesson proper of this module.

Please read the notes below about characteristics of materials that can be bent,
pressed, hammered and cut.

Hi Kids! We are now in the REFINE PART of the lesson. Here, we will
polish your knowledge so that you can have a better understanding about the
lesson.

Write true if the statement is correct and false if it is incorrect.

1. When a solid material is pressed, there will be new material that will be
formed.________________
2. When a solid material is hammered, there will be change in size and shape
even the texture may be changed._______________
3. Only the physical appearance of the material or object can be changed
when cut. ____________________
4. In bending of irons, the shape is changed.
5. Solid material have different characteristics and properties. ______________

Let me hear from you. Write your questions or inquiries about your lesson. I will be
glad to answer your questions for clarifications. Use the lines/space provided
below.

Hello again kids! How are you doing so far? I hope you are learning a lot about
the lesson.

These words were given as Word Power in the first part of the module. Now let us
give examples for each characteristic of a solid material.

Bent Cut Hammered Pressed

Plastic ruler Cardboard box Galvanized roof Clay

Spoon and fork Fruits and vegetables Nail Potato

What else??? What else??? What else??? What else???

These are just some examples can you name some?

You are now at the latter part of the module. Now, let’s have some activities to do.
If you have these materials at home, it would be great to do these activities. This is
part of your experiment at home. But if only one or two is/are available then that is
still alright, just make sure to perform the activities.
Write your observation in a bond paper and this will be part of your submission for
this module.

What happened to the material when pressed?

What happened to the material when hammered?

1.
Think about this big question and write your reflection.

How important solid materials need to change their size and shape? How would
you benefit from it?
