Module 2: Classifying Matter Based on Its ability to absorb water ; Ability to Float or Sink

Below are the learning targets for this week's lesson.

At the end of this lesson you are expected to:

At the end of this lesson, you are expected to:

 Classify the materials that absorb water or not

 Identify the materials that can float or sink.
 Explain how materials can float or sink.
Please copy these learning targets in your science notebook for your reference in
making your "I CAN" statement.

After copying, you can now write/type your "I can" statements on the space
provided below

1. _________________________________________________________________________

 Please copy these learning objectives in your notebook as your reference in
making your "I can" statement. After copying, you can now write your "I can"
statement in the space provided below.

Hi kids! I will show you some pictures and I want you to name them. Do you see
them at home?

After naming them, please complete the table based on what is being asked.

You may use your notebook to write your answers.

What have you found out?

1. What kind of materials float and sink?

2. What did these materials float or sink in water?

3. Some materials that sink in water did not sink right away. Why do you think so?

I want to hear from you. Please type your response in the reply tab below.

You are now in the lesson proper of this module.

At this point you are going to learn concepts on classifying matter based on its
ability to float on or sink in water.

But before that, copy the WORD POWER first in your notebook.

Matter- is anything that occupies space ( having volume) and has mass.

Mass- an amount of matter an object has.

Volume- the space occupied by the mass.

Density- The mass of an object per space occupied by its volume

To learn more about classifying matter based on its ability to float on or sink in
water, let's watch the video.

You may go this link.

or you may refer to these notes.

Good job kids! You are done reading and learning about the reasons why
objects sink or float.

Now, to continue our lesson, let's have additional concept notes.

This is now all about classifying matter based on its ability to absorb water.

absorbent- material that easily absorb.

non-absorbent- one that does not absorb liquid.

capillarity- is the ability of liquid to pass through narrow spaces without the
assistance of an external force like gravity.

absorption- is a process of taking up liquids through minute pores of a

substance.
Before going to the next slide, you are tasked to share what you have learned on
the video/presentation.

Did you learn something on taking the online quiz? If you think there are still so
much things that you need to learn, then your book is a good source of learning.

Please go to page 16-25 about Classifying Different Materials Based on their

Properties focusing on ability to float on or sink in water and ability to absorb
water.

You are tasked to highlight key terms and ideas and answer the exercises
presented in those pages.

Let me hear from you. Write your questions or inquiries about your lesson. I will be
glad to answer your questions for clarifications. Use the lines/space provided
below.

Hello again kids! How are you doing so far?

There is one related topic that you need to learn. This is all about The Importance
Of Interpreting Product Labels and Proper Disposal of Wastes.

Your book is a very good material for this. So please open your book to page 31-
36.

You are tasked to highlight the KEY TERMS and IDEAS for easy recall and
reference.

These are words that you need to focus on in your readings.

1. Product label

2. Best Before Date

3. Nutrition Facts

4. Hazardous Materials
If you are done, you may now review your notes, book and other references in
preparation for your summative test.
1.
Part 2 Composition Writing (7 points)
Explain how density a factor whether an object will float or sink in water.
