SCIENTIFIC METHOD

Good day, Agnesian! It’s the start of another week of learning. I hope that you are
ready for what is about to come this week!

A scientist is someone who starts with questions, so kids make great scientists! As
kids explore the natural world, they have developed questions just like real scientists.
There is so much to learn through experimentation with the help of simple materials
around us.
As we develop practices that involve creating, gathering data, evaluating, analyzing, and
communicating, we can apply these critical thinking skills to any situation.

In this learning module, you will:

 review the branches of science and scientific processes

 enumerate the steps in scientific method
 follow and use the scientific method in experiments
 show and relate importance of scientific method in our daily lives

Remember, you don’t need to try and solve the world’s biggest science
questions! The scientific method is all about studying and learning things right
around This is a learning module intended guide you in understanding the animals
around us. As you work on this module, you must answer some questions and do
activities to test your understanding. Your answers must be written on the spaces
provided. At the end of the module be sure to accomplish the Performance Criteria
Checklist. Do not forget to write your significant learning experience after finishing
the module. Please also ask your parent/guardian to write their remarks and
suggestions. Have fun!

Day 1
Good morning and Benedicite! Are you ready to learn something new today?
Let’s start our lesson this morning with the following activities.

BOOK TRACK

Kindly open your Aralinks account and answer the following activities. Make sure
that you follow all the instructions in each activity. Have fun!
Have you ever wondered how things around you come into existence? How did
they all begin? There are so many reasons for their existence and you always ask these
questions, “how and why?” things act that way. So, people continue to search for the
truth and this truth is what we call science.
To know more about science, read the information in your book p. 1-3 and
answer the following activities.

ACTIVITY: Picture me science

We have different ways on how to define Science. In this activity, study each picture
and explain how each of them are related to Science. Write your answers in the space
provided at the right side.

tree, science has different branches. Each scientist choose a particular field of Science
to study. Let me check your knowledge about the branches of science.
Which branch of science is defined in the statement? Unscramble the letters to find
the answer. Write your answers in the space provided below each number.

BOOK TRACK

We are done recalling Branches of Science and Basic Scientific Processes. For
us to ensure the effectiveness of an experiment, read the information about Scientific
Method on your book (Science links) pp. 8-9 and accomplish the Experiment sheet
found at the end of this module.

Day 3

9
Good morning and Benedicite! It’s the 3rd day of the week! We are almost done
with our lesson. Let’s continue where we left off yesterday. Here are the activities that
you need to accomplish today.

ACTIVITY 1: SCIENTIFIC METHOD STORY WORKSHEET

Read the following story and then answer the questions.

You and your friend are walking along a beach in America on January 15, at
8:00 am. You notice a thermometer on a nearby building that reads -1°C. You also
notice that there is snow on the roof of the building and icicles hanging from the roof.
You further notice a pool of sea water in the sand near the ocean. Your friend looks at
the icicles and the pool and says, "How come the water on the roof is frozen and the
sea water is not?" You answer, "1 think that the salt in the sea water keeps it from
freezing at -1°C." You go on to say, "And I think under the same conditions, the same
thing will happen tomorrow." Your friend asks, "How can you be sure?" You answer,
"I'm going to get some fresh water and some salt water and expose them to a
temperature of-1°C and see what happens."

sending me a chat! I would love to hear from you. Just click the chat box below and ask
me your question.

Performance Task

You did great on your activities! It seems like you already mastered the
topic. Now, you are going to work on a performance task about scientific method.

You are going to identify an observable problem at home.

Example:
Dying plants in your garden
Pet’s behavior at home
Drying of laundry on a sunny day
Decaying of fruits placed on the table
Freezing or melting of ice in the freezer

Use the scientific method on how to solve it. All of the steps in the scientific
method should be used. You may do it on a long bond paper handwritten or computer
typed may do. Please also attach pictures of the obserbvable event and you doing the
observation.

MODE OF SUBMISSION:
ONLINE Students: Please take a picture of your work and submit it through Aralinks.
OFFLINE students: Kindly submit your actual output together with module number 1.
