Module No. 1 Date:

SCIENTIFIC METHOD

A scientist is someone who starts with questions, so kids make great scientists! As
kids explore the natural world, they have questions just like real scientists.

Kids are young scientists that questions the world around them every day and there
is so much to learn through experimentation with simple materials.

So…. Get ready young Einsteins! As we develop practices that involve creating, gathering
data, evaluating, analyzing, and communicating, we can apply these critical thinking skills
to any situation.

In this learning module, you will:

 Recall the branches of Science and Scientific Processes
 Determine what hypothesis is
 Formulate a sound hypothesis for a given situation.
 Enumerate the scientific method
 Follow the scientific method in experiments

Remember, you don’t need to try and solve the world’s biggest science questions! The
scientific method is all about studying and learning things right around you.

Day 1
Good morning and Benedicite! Are you ready to learn something new today? Let’s start our
lesson this morning with the following activities.

ACTIVITY ALLOTED
ACTIVITIES
NO. TIME

1 SciTech Moment 25 mins

Kindly open your Aralinks account and answer the following
activities. Make sure that you follow all of the instructions in each
activity. Have fun!
Activity :
- Branches of Science
Did you know that science also has
something in common with ice cream? Just like
ice cream, science can be broken down into many
different flavors. Only in science, these 'flavors'
are called branches. Just like you might have a
favorite flavor of ice cream, many scientists
choose to study a particular branch of science!
Read the statement carefully and answer.

Task: Which branch of science is defined in the

statement? Unscramble the letters to find the answer.
Write your answer in the space provided.

- Scientific processes
Since Scientific processes is already
introduced to you last school year, let us
challenge our understanding and recall the
steps. Complete the activity sheet given and
do what is asked on each step of scientific
process.
1. Observing
2. Comparing
3. Classifying
4. Measuring
5. Predicting
6. Inferring
2 Experiment Time 20 mins
Complete the activity sheet entitled: ICE RACE found at the
end of this module. Read and follow the instructions properly and
answer the questions that follow. Don’t forget to submit the activity
sheet in your E-portfolio in pdf format (online) or to attach it in your
module when your parents submit it in school on Friday (offline).

3 Book Track 15 mins

To understand how each step on scientific method is related
to each other; read pp. 8-9 your Science Links book. After reading,
answer the The Scientific Method.
Instruction:
Read each item carefully and choose the letter of the best
answer.

1 Virtual Meeting 60 mins
Today, we are going to have our 1 st virtual meeting for the week.
To participate in our virtual meeting, log in to your zoom account using
my PMI:
Ms. Kath : ____________
Be around during our scheduled time. Prepare the following
materials: slate board, book, module, pen, white board marker, and
eraser.
See you later!

TEACHER’S GUIDE
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. Familiarize the first steps of the Scientific Method
b. Practice observing recording details on a given situation
or picture and develop hypothesis
c. Show the importance of careful observation

II. Subject Matter: Scientific Method (First steps)

Values: Working systematically

III. Procedure
a. Motivation/Review
The teacher will let the children observe the picture “The Scene of
the crime” wherein they will attempt to retain as many details as
possible from the provided image. The students will watch the image
for 30 seconds to make their careful observations, and then record their
responses on their daily Bell Question Response sheet.

The teacher will review the questions from basic to average to

professional level as a whole group with the image, "The Scene of the
Crime", on the projection screen.  This is a great time to remind the
students about the power of observations in our science labs and the
importance of paying attention to even the smallest details! This is a
powerful moment to have students focus on the importance of
observations and the attention to detail when making observations.

Basic Review Questions:

1. What was the name of the outdoor café?

2. How many bank robbers were there?
3. What store was next to the café?

Keeping you on your toes questions:

1. What time was it by the bank clock?

2. How many bags of money did they carry?
3. Was the car parked illegally?

3
Professional Level question:

1. What day of the week was it?

2. What was the license number the car?
3. How much did the apple cost?

b. Virtual Meeting Activities

We practiced careful observation and it is the first step in
Scientific method. For us to deeply understand it and
move on to the next first steps of Scientific Method, we
need to apply it in a situation.
(The teacher will group the students into groups and
give questions to the students that will lead them to the
next steps of scientific method)

Instruction: Observe the picture shown in the

presentation and make an…
-Observation
-Define the problem or ask question
-Research about the problem
-Develop a hypothesis
I’ll give you 15 mins to formulate your thoughts with
your groupmates and present your work to the class.

c. Checking of Book Activities

d. Formative Assessment

Let us see if you really understand our topic for today the
question by recording your own observation, defining your
problem and developing hypothesis by choosing on the
three situations given.

Instruction: Choose 1 situation from the three

presented to record your own observation, define
your problem, and develop your hypothesis. Write
your answers on the answer sheet provided and pass
it to me using Aralinks or attached it on your module.

IV. Closure

I will ask the students the importance of careful observation

and doing the step by step process in scientific method.
Alternative In case of power interruption, do this activity instead: 60 mins
Activity Read the information on your book on page 8-9. Then, answer
the alternative activity below.

Direction: Fill in the blanks with your Observation and define your problem and develop a
hypothesis.

it. After our lesson this week, how do you feel now when discussing issues related to your body parts?
Why do you think it is important to use the correct terms to refer to the male and female reproductive
parts? Draw an emoji that describes your feelings when discussing your body parts and write an
explanation in the box at the right side.

Concept of the
Concept # 1Week!
The reproductive system of both male and female are designed to ensure the continuity of
human race by producing offsprings.

The male reproductive system includes the testes, scrotum, epididymis, glands, and penis. Its
function is to produce and deliver sperms. The major sex hormone in males is testosterone.

The female reproductive system includes the ovaries, fallopian tube, uterus, cervix, and vagina.
Its function is to produce eggs, receive a sperm, nourish a fertilized egg, and give birth. The major
sex hormone in females are estrogen and progesterone.
